Thanks for the information Helge.
I have had a look, and found the bolts were a little loose, so I have tightened them, and will see if it has cured the noise the next time the machine is used.
Keep well.

Thanks for the info and the pic Jim.
I think I will certainly be avoiding Indesit & Hotpoint the next time a new machine is required!
We are hoping to have a porch built this year, and the machine will be moving from the kitchen. The master plan is to have a seperate washing machine and dryer when space permits.
If the Indesit falls to pieces before that time, I think we will replace it with a washing machine and make do with a trip to the launderette for drying until we have enough room for both machines.
I was thinking about buying a new spider for the Indesit, (when I though the bearings may be the cause), but in view of the advice of the Penguin & yourself I will save my money for a more deserving cause that Mr Meloni’s wallet!
Thanks again for your time.
Keep well.

Thanks for the warning… I’ll have the credit card on standby!
Incidentally, it’s usually about three washes a week, two at 40 deg and one at 90 deg. Most cycles include use of the dryer.
The water here is hard, (Norfolk), but we do have a water conditioner, (not a softener), fitted around the rising main.
Can you just clarify one thing for me?. Am I right in assuming that the item you are referring to is the part that passes through the drum bearings, and carries the stainless drum itself?
Thanks again for your help.

Thanks for the reply Penguin.
I have done as you suggested, and cannot honestly say that I can see any movement, other than that of the entire tank on its suspension. Lifting the front edge of the drum provides for a few millimetres of movement, but I think that is simply a magnification of any slight play in the front & rear drum bearings.
Mindful of what you said, I have tried pushing down on the front of the drum as I turn it, and cannot feel any contact of the drum with anything, such as the element.
I think I might try changing the drive belt in case it has a slight flat spot, (after all, it is under a great deal of tension). However, if the belt proves to be silly money I will not bother!
If it turns out to be anything that would require replacement of the tank, then I will use the machine until it finally expires altogether, and then replace it.
Once again, many thanks for your assistance.
