Ha, love the description Martin. I used to get the opposite. I installed PC sytems. Hubby asking all the questions while the Mrs watched in the background.
Hope all is well. Yes, installed all according to instructions, including levelling which a lot of people Lea r out.
In case someone wants to check it out….Rob3rto

Worked faultlessly all weekend. Did a load this morning, and it was making a noise I hadn’t heard yet.
Nothing trapped between drum and seal, sounds like motor noise. Just running a small load now, few t shirts and back to normal.

Question.
It doesn’t mention it in manual but should I run a service wash with a handfull of soda crystals before the first proper wash or would that have been done at the factory?
EDIT
Reread the instruction leaflet and it recommends to do an empty run first.Rob3rto

Arrived and I installed it. Old one taken away by John Lewis.
Mums a happy bunny now.
Hope it lasts a while, not expecting anywhere near the AEG but at least 6-8 years.
Even came with a Calgon hard water tester strip. Being in South London, no prize for guessing the outcome 😀Cheers all.

Will be here Friday 😀
Just got to prepare water supply, for some reason, there is a double connector supplying cold water to both inlets on the AEG. Trip to plumbers merchant and I’m good.Rob3rto

Just one more thing to diagnose before I order parts.
In the last 6 months or so, once I have finished using the grill (door open of course), the cooling fan keeps going for a lot longer than it use to. Goes on for 10 minutes.
What could cause this and is it a part I can buy and change myself?
Thanks R.Rob3rto

Anyone? Don’t want to miss the clearance price and end up paying £80 more.

Finally got round to removing timer to check what you suggested but I can’t see a way into it.Why not contact EMW Electronics to see if they can sort it for you? 😉
If I can definitely say its the timer at fault, maybe worth it, but a 25 year old machine? What else will go wrong?
I’ll call them and see on price and take it from there. Thanks for link.July 1, 2014 at 6:02 pm in reply to: AEG Lavamat 971 – Skips final spin and restarts wash program #415234Rob3rto

Nope, front panel doesn’t need to come off but the side panels do. They reveal the 4 screws holding the hob in place.
Only downer is original hob wires are soldered to posts not screwed like I’ve seen in YouTube vidz.

Hoovered up all that rust that had come off the hob plates while I was at it. Looks like 3 definitely need replacing but may as well do all 4.

Can all 4 be the red spot ones or is that too much?

I’ll remove the front panel and check.

Can anyone guide me as to what is next move, apart from cleaning the 10 year crud buildup 😀That’ll be all that’s stopping it I expect.
Tried again and it seems there is a hidden clip or screw right smack in the middle at the front. If I pull, the metal trim bends where it is held.
I’ll have another look tomorrow when no one is looking over my shoulder. Shame I haven’t got a service manual for it.
Oh, and this is why I need to change them.
