ParticipantThanks, on the compressor the top pin is the offending black cable the bottom left pin brown positive and bottom right pin is blue neg. ok if i put a tester between the 2 bottom pins brown and blue i get 0 ohms, between bottom left and top (black) 18.0 ohms and between bottom right blue and top black 18.0 ohms. so i should be getting a reading between the 2 bottom pos and neg and im not, is this correct?

ParticipantHi Dave as explained this track goes to the black cable that runs down to the top pin on the compressor relay and goes into the top pin on the compressor. so could this be a faulty compressor? hi as mentioned in message 25 on page 2 the first board that blew tripped the RCD however the second did not.

Participantthanks replaced the relay so its not that, how do i check the compressor? can you send details i have checked continuity between all 3 pins and its ok.

ParticipantAt last a link that works… see attached board as explained i have 2 the same blown in the same place as you can see 3 dots on the white plastic connector, the left hand dot is the black wire it seems to be connected to the offending track on the board this black wire connects to the compressor relay top pin the next to the right is the brown live and next is the blue neutral any ideas?

Participantcant load pictures on this site.. nightmare tried and they say they are too heavy.. traced on the board track is from the positive pin and both boards blown in the same location, initially when i put them in the light comes on and then bang first time it also tripped the house breaker second board just blew the board never blew the fuse, will try and load pics again tonight.

ParticipantYes, done that, and its all ok

ParticipantYes thanks continuity tested from the power cable up to the board all ok, power from the same 240v getting to board? (is this correct? is there some sort of dropper 12v/24v thats failed before the board?) no voltage between earth and neutral so thats ok, however in the smeg32 the wiring runs from the display/control board at the top of the fridge down the length of the unit and out the bottom thinking it may be shorting somwhere between the 2 points my question is.. how do i get to the wiring.. do i have to strip the sides off to access it ? is this possible, anybody know how to get to the wiring on the smeg32? or is there anything else that will cause blowing the control board, have checked the fan and sensors in the freezer and they all look fine and no burnt wires, will check the compressor to earth when i get home today.

ParticipantThanks Dave if anyone out there has any ideas please get in touch

ParticipantHi..quick update managed to get a identical used working control unit and it blew that board as well.. cant seem to managed to attach a picture but it has blown on the same place as the last, anyway i obviously have a short somewhere, the wiring runs from the control unit at the top of the fridge and down how can i trace this? anybody got a schematic or can explain how i can check the wiring? SMEG32 its only 3 years old?

ParticipantHi i wasnt getting a ohm reading between the bottom 2 pins however checked continuity on the same 2 pins and its ok if that makes sense.
