No…machine has been installed for about 4-5yrs with the only time I’ve had it out was 6 weeks ago to replace the brushes.
The previous Bosch 1605 used to bang around kinda similar when the brushes were worn or the belt was slipping.
I don’t recall seeing a way of adjusting the belt on the WFL2400.
She plans on doing the towels Saturday so I’ll study it more carefully then remove it next week to get the model number and look inside (power off of course).

SWMBO has just told me that the machine has always done it even when new and she remembers the repairman telling her that it’s nothing to worry about as the out of balance mechanism will stabilise it. Of course I never noticed it as she always did washing whilst I was at work. Is this normal for these machines like the repairer said? It doesn’t cause the machine to dance around the floor but to me about 8 thumps from inside the machine is a bit dodgy.

A shock-absorber repair kit is $120 (72Pounds) here in OZ so a bit much to throw at the machine if it is not going to change anything.

SWMBO is using the machine at the moment so I won’t get a chance to look at it till much later. Interestigly the instruction manual mentions the door frame and “also on the identification plate, enclosed by a thick line, on the front of the machine behind the nameplate.”….no idea were that is unless it is behind the front panel with all the switches and dials….my bet is it’s on the back like you say.

Thanks for the reply P45 (cheers once again from sunny Sth Australia).
Unfortunately the little sticker with the full model number on the inside of the door is illegible. It was marketed in OZ as Bosch Maxx 1200….WFL2400AU

Made in Thailand from German parts, I will try the local agent but they are sometimes obnoxious to deal with when trying to get any info out of them especially advice to fit the parts you have to buy from them to fit yourself.

Re: Time to replace the Bosch dishwasher

Thanks for the input….I took wifey along to have a look at the 3 different brands and luckily the main dealer in Adelaide sells & services all of them.
I had sort of decided that the Miele G1243SC was the way to go but she surprisingly found things she didn’t like in this machine.
She was concerned that moisture thru capillary action would get behind the front panel & discolour it like happened with the Bosch(this was the killer), the cutlery drawer restricted the use of long stem glasses and large dinner plates, having to sort the cutlery and lay them out individually. They had a
G1220 with a cutlery basket that would have been OK (& cheaper) but by then she had seen the Asko D3132 and was won over by the interior versatility and simple fascia….it arrives Monday.
This will be our first non Bosch appliance so fingers crossed it will work as well be just as reliable .

Cheers again from sunny Sth Oz,
It’s been 16mths now since this fault occurred and the same thing has happened again….away for 1 weeks holiday and the drain pump has seized again only this time I’m inclined to shell out for a new machine rather than pay for replacement pump.
At this stage looking at a basic Bosch, Miele or Asko so the price range is approx $850 – 1500 so I would be grateful for any recommendations.

    cheers…Valvo

Re: continue trying to repair or go for reconditioned Miele

    Hi Sazzle,
My rule of thumb for OZ appliances is $100 per year….spend $500 on a Hoover toploader and it will last 5 years if you are lucky….we spent $1100 on a Bosch WFL2400 front loader and the sales wally reckons it will last 12-14 yrs. It’s assembled in Thailand from German components except for the cabinet .
Spins to 1200rpm which is plenty with the only complaint in 2yrs is it’s a bit noisy on the spin cycle.
Don’t be tempted by the toploaders….sure you’ll save heaps of water with a frontloader but the real $$ savings are in detergent.
You may even get a rebate in some states for buying a water efficient machine.

    Re: Bosch SMS5012 Won’t Empty

    Those are the only numbers….
Just an estimate of the price will do, usually the prices for parts in Oz dollars are very similar to UK Pounds after conversion.
Just trying to work out whether to fix it proper or start searching for a comparable machine….it really is a good machine except her indoors complains about the fascia being a bit tatty.

Are Bosch still making good stuff?
or should I shell out for a Miele?

    Lots of Numbers…

    Siemens
    2Al2 309-4GD
    1 737 222 122
    710.30016/10

    then vertical numbers: 46.94
which I’m guessing means it was made in week 46 in 1994

    Re: Bosch SMS5012 Won’t Empty

Success…Pulled it apart and the pump had siezed, squirted some WD40 into bearings and shaft, managed to turn the motor over by poking it with a screwdriver and it freed up.
Trouble is, it siezed up whilst we were away on a weeks holiday so I expect it to happen again….any idea how much a new (Siemens) pump is?

Re: Bosch WTA3200 not drying on auto cycle

    Martin,
Before I order a new board I figure I should check all the inputs from any other sensors besides the drum “paddles” and slip rings. I can see a probe (thermostat?) in the duct at the bottom of the door…..are there any other sensors?…..a circuit would be nice 😉

Re: Bosch WTA3200 not drying on auto cycle

Thanks Martin….any way of proving it’s the controller board?(other than changing with a new one) I doubt if there is anyone in Oz repairing these boards, is there a repairer in the UK?

Are these generally a reliable machine and do they have any common problems?…..We’ve certainly found it has performed well for 6 years except I suspect it overcooks when mostly polyester fabrics are being dried. What is the life expectancy for these driers?

Interestingly I notice that it seems to heat only when tumbling in a clockwise direction when set to 30 mins manual position but wifey says it is drying a load of towels in 1 hour OK on this setting.

Re: Bosch WTA3200 not drying on auto cycle

    Hi Martin,
Sadly it doesn’t appear to be an easy quick-fix, the sensor brushes have plenty of life left in them and are nicely bearing down on the drum.
When it is set to position 3 (cupboard dry plus) it blows warm air for about 10 seconds then reverses and then blows cold, the indicator lights on the front cycle through in about 10 minutes. I notice there are relays on the controller board….are these a replacment part? Are there any other areas I can check before calling in the local Bosch boffins? (ps: I’m a telecoms tech so I can read cicuitry & have a multimeter)

    regards….Valvo
