Retailer Iceland has shed more than 120 jobs after deciding to close its electrical showrooms.

Deeside-based Iceland opted to “˜review’ the future of its white goods business earlier this year and 122 staff have now been made redundant.

The showrooms, which are based in about 18 per cent of Iceland’s UK stores, including Mold and Chester, will be closed in stages.

The electrical sales business is operated by Dalton House Appliances, a joint venture company, which carried out a consultation with workers.

A spokesman for Iceland said the staggered closures will be completed by the end of the month and 25 Dalton House workers have transferred to Iceland Foods.

The company claims the review was carried out to free up space for its core food business.

Chief executive Malcolm Walker said: “With Iceland now in its fifth consecutive year of double digit like-for-like sales growth, we are naturally examining every opportunity to improve our use of space to enhance our offer and service to our customers, by providing additional food merchandising and enhancing the facilities for our home delivery service.”
