This dishwasher is 11 years old and has been faultless until now.

The auto programme lasts 2hrs 30 according to the dash on the inside, but once the various cycles have concluded the programme seems to ‘hang’ in the final drying phase.

Same thing on shorter programmes e.g. glass. I come back to the dishwasher long after the programme should have finished and the dishwasher should have turned itself off, to find the red indicator light still on and about fifteen minutes still to go.

Dishes are still perfectly cleaned, water is heating as normal, no other warning signs.

I’ve tried all the usual things of several rounds of dishwasher cleaner, citric acid, and cleaned the filters regularly and often (they’re spotless anyway). I now do a three second reset every time to complete the programme, but I’d rather the thing worked as designed.

What should I investigate? Many thanks in advance

It occurred to me that it might be the door lock problem occurring when the hot rinse phase of the programme causes thermal expansion. Is that plausible?

only if when you find it stopped you can close the door and it continues

Thanks Dave I know I can close the door but I haven’t waited for the programme to finish. I’ll do some checking

Update: mid-cycle the control panel now only shows a simultaneously flashing red light on the symbols of the tap and rinse aid. It won’t reset, either

On closer inspection, the cleaning water didn’t drain from the machine. I siphoned it out and checked the movement of the drain impeller but it can move freely. The machine is currently inoperative as it won’t allow me to reset and begin a new cycle
