ParticipantHi there
My John Lewis jltdh21 heat pump dryer has stopped running. It turns on fine, but whenever I hit the start button on a cycle, the drying phase symbol (attached picture) just flashes repeatedly and nothing happens. I can also hear 2 quite quiet clicks from inside the machine when I first hit the start button. I’ve tried all the types of cycles, have cleaned all filters, dried out the machine etc. Any ideas what could be causing this?
Thanks

ParticipantUnfortunately the push start didn’t work. But taking the top off I noticed 2 things. 1) The black rubber (?) loop round the drum was loose (not sure if normal?) and 2) The click I described above was coming from the module on the right hand side of the inside of the dryer in the other 2 photos. Moderatorok well thats not supposed to be loose.
now take off the right side and see if the belt has shredded and jammed the motorDave

ParticipantBingo. Not sure about belt (looks fine, but the motor assembly that actually turns the belt is completely gone. The plastic wheel was still sitting on the housing but the rest was down at the bottom of the machine. I’ve taken a photo of the bits I was able to retrieve- including a spring and a burnt plastic bit

ParticipantGreat thanks. Is there anywhere I can find the manual that’s showing the pictures you’re using? I don’t know if the motor is ruined, or just the assembly to the left (the big plastic wheel with the metal spindle through it). The spindle and plastic cover seems melted/broken and the plastic wheel was just hanging off. Does this indicate the motor is burnt out too do you think?

Moderatorwell with the belt off, as long as the wires to the motor are not damaged, it should run

ParticipantOk great. So the fix would be- purchase a new assembly of the spindle and plastic housing and reattach that + the spring. Again is there a service manual you’re using to get this info? Many thanks

ParticipantI can test if it runs now the belt is fully off, but I think all I’ll get is a “click” again!

ParticipantYes, it is. But as expected I fired it up and pressed start and all I get is the “click” in the module/PCB type thing at the top of the machine

Moderatorhave you check the motor plug and wires have not been moved or damaged when the belt flew off as they go with quite a bang
