ParticipantHi all
I was wondering if somebody could help please.
I have an Elica Filo IX/A/90 cooker hood which has stopped working and is just making a buzzing noise. I’ve tried to find out where it’s coming from but think it’s either the control unit or motor.
Anybody have any advice on how I can diagnose the issue and find out what the issue is?
Many thanks.

KeymasterHave you got the 12NC number starting with 208 from the rating plate inside the hood?

ParticipantHi, thanks for getting back to me. The 12NC number is 208343104405. Thanks.

KeymasterIf the motor isn’t running then my best guess would be the motor or capacitor, I’d change the cap first though and see if that solves it.
The one used in it is this one

ParticipantHi, thank you.
Does the old capacitor just come out and would the new one clip in or would it need soldering? Out of interest, are you a qualified kitchen extractor fan repairer? Thanks.

KeymasterNo problem and it does not require soldering.
There is no such thing as a “qualified” hood repairer, only those with training and experience.

ParticipantHi K, thanks. I’ll order the part and will update you on how it goes.

ParticipantHi, unfortunately replacing the capacitor hasn’t worked. The noise is coming from the ECB so could it be that what needs replacing? Thanks.

KeymasterPossibly, it’s this one used in that hood.

ParticipantWouldn’t this work as well?

KeymasterNot according to the parts info on that 12NC code which I looked it up on, no.
What the difference is, not a clue.

ParticipantWhat type of buzzing are you getting as if it’s one of the relays chattering I’d be taking a close look at capacitor C1 to see if it has failed. Is the top of C1 still completely flat or is there and signs of leakage from its base?

ParticipantHi tubafan, is it possible to send images and videos to this thread and if so how? I tried before and couldn’t get it working. Where is the C1capacitor please?
Actually, is it the black tube type thing? Where can these be bought and how much do they cost?

Moderatorpics can be added by hosting them on another site like google pics. then post a public link

ParticipantHi and thanks Dave for your advice.
I attach a video of the noise that the extractor fan is making. Plus photos of the C1 capacitor and the ECB.
Thanks.
