ParticipantI have a 10+ years old bean to cup coffee machine (Delonghi Primadonna Deluxe S), which I really like.
Unfortunately, it started to make a loud buzzing noise when making coffee (the coffee is fine) and it takes twice as long to make a cuppa.Spoke to Delonghi, they’ve said that because the machine is so old, it is beyond of economic repair and advised that I’d be better off scrapping it and buying a new one.
Surely it should be possible to repair the machine rather than sending it to a skip?I’ve searched on the web and it looks like the pump is on its last leg, plus there are a lot of other potential issues like relays and stuff. Some even say there is something wrong with the boiler…
Any advise is much appreciated. Oh, and if there is an engineer around Northampton who can fix that machine, I would like to know their details 🙂

ParticipantNot recently, no. I only descale it when it is asking for it, I think the last time I did it was about 2 months ago.

Moderatorwell its a long shot but its cheap and easy
if you have a valve in the pump jammed through scale or a stuck pressure relief valve it would give your symptoms

ParticipantAre you suggesting I shall run a descale cycle? Can do, after all, as you’ve said, it is cheap and easy.

Descaled the machine today twice.
It made no difference at all.
It sounds, however, that the buzzing noise is happening when the machine is taking water from the tank and putting it to boiler. When it is pumping the water out through the hot water spout there is no noise, just the usual whirring.December 12, 2024 at 9:14 pm #491889electrofix
Moderatorwell there is only one pump
weird that it make a noise sometimes not others
does it seem to pump water ok ?

ParticipantYes, it pumps water OK, no issues with either water flow or coffee taste.

Moderatorthe buzzing noise is normally a pump problem where the pump armature is travelling too far too fast. its normally associated with air in the unit or low water level. it can be caused by faulty or blocked pump valves.
but your saying it pumps ok so am a bit lost as to why its doing itDave

ParticipantI’ve seen some videos on youtube where people are blaming it on 3-way solenoid. Not sure if it is correct or not, though.
Apart from the noise the machine operates perfectly well and the coffee is as good as on day one.December 14, 2024 at 4:04 pm #491893electrofix
Moderatorall you can do is take the covers off and with care and safety in mind operate it and see if you can determine where the noise is coming from

An update – ran the cleaning a couple of times again during last months and the buzzing noise is gone. Thank you for your help!
