I’ve been advised by a couple of local repairers that it’s not economical to replace the bearings on my Zanussi FL1085. They both estimated the job would take over three hours, which would certainly make that true.

However, a number of posts in the forums here suggest that, while the job does involve a lot of dismantling, a repairer with the right experience can expect to complete it in a little over an hour, which probably would make the repair worthwhile.

Is this true? If so, can anyone recommend a repairer in the Cambridge area who might undertake the work? (The ‘Repairs’ facility doesn’t provide any matches, unfortunately.)

    Many thanks!

    I’d say it’s a 2 hour job.

Maybe 1 if your fast and had two pairs of hands. But fast makes mistakes.

I always recommend getting that repair done, as I like the Zanussi machine, and that is one of the only things that goes wrong with them.

    Thanks for the info, Goatboy.

Yes, the machine’s given perfect service until now (it’s probably done somewhere around 1000 washes) so it was my feeling too that it was too early to just consign it to the tip.

I stopped using it as soon as free play became evident in the drum, so I’m hoping the damage is limited to the bearings.

Now I just need to find someone who thinks it’s an hour (or even two) job who’s prepared to do it!

That’s miles away! But it does say CB4, so they must be prepared to travel. I’ll give them a call.

    Cheers Dave!

Had Tony from One Call round this morning to replace the bearings – how’s about that for fast service – and machine is now running perfectly again, so thanks to all.

For the record, it took about an hour and three-quarters, but at a reasonable price, so I’m happy. Just don’t lend him any sockets! (Sorry Tony!) 🙂

I think I have the same issue bearing gone on a Zanussi FL1085.
Funnily enough I live in Naarfolk…
BUT – can’t get through to the 1st Call company and looked in yellow pages and they aren’t in there. – so are they still going ?
Can anybody recommend anybody else in the Norfolk area to repair my washer machine.
HOw much should I expect to pay to get it fixed if it is the bearings ?

    £90 -£120?

Rates vary massively. You’ll need the drum support too if the barings are being changed.

    Hi,

I have the same fault with drum ballbearings on my Zanussi FL1084. Is it economically worth calling an engineer?

    Thanks,
    Teasy 🙄

It is a very involved process with tank having to be extracted form chassis.
Try the engineer link below for help.

I let you know on Monday after he has been !

Either £120 to repair or over £400 for a decent new one.
I’d rather stick with one that has worked well…

Sorry, Goatboy was correct I have been a tad busy. 😕

Yeah, bearing job on one isn’t too bad at all for £120. 😉

Tony from 1st Call (as well as many other good repairers) you can get from repairs@, the link just at the end of every post takes you there.
