i have a neff s484oxo/gb/06 and have found my wife has been forgetting to fill the salt container i put 2 scoops in as recommended in the manual but i feel it needs more to start with and then regular topping up the refill light seems to come on after a couple of uses and i have a slight salt bloom otherwise it works fine any thoughts please

Carefully check the salt lid gasket and that it fits snugly in position. Always use salt granules and when full with salt, should last 15 to 20 washes before the salt light comes on again 🙂

thanks for your prompt reply i filled with salt none remains visable and i have turned the regulator to its lowest position but still get a salty residue is there some form of regulator that could be faulty im pretty sure the gaskit is working ok

The Softener Unit may be at fault in that case and need replacing?
Try running a full wash cycle empty, then try again with a normal load. If you have problems still, its the Softener Unit I’m afraid 🙁

Do you mean a white residue on glasses etc, this can be caused by several things . are you using 2in1/3in1/4in1 tablets or individual powder/salt/rinse aid are spray arms rotating freely are you using the correct dose of detergent for your machine

thanks again we do use rinse aid and tablets and after they have run out i will
move to seperete items my gut feeling its the water softner i dont know how it works or were it is but i filled up with salt this mornin and i could fill up now
if i had any it seems to just go after one wash i cleaned the gaskit and around that area

after another wash the glasses are almost perfect rinseaid on three salt on 1
im still at a loss to know why this is i must have put about 1 kg of salt in could this have been the problem or has it recharged the softening process

Bit difficult trying to translate what you are on about here?
But do please bear in mind that dishwashers do need salt in order for the water softener to function correctly. If you are using 3 in 1 tablets, you still do need to use the water softener and regularly put SALT in it!

sorry for being vague i put no1 on the salt dispenser i know you cant just use tablets i was wondering how much salt would be needed to fill up after not being filled for a long time
the marks seem to have gone but this was after a couple of washes do you think it has just settled down after being filled with salt

Yes…the softener may have been completely exhausted in which case it will take a wash or three to regenerate fully after adding the salt.
I suspect the deposit on your glasses was actually limescale from the water, the softener will now deal with this.
It’s worth reminding that the machine requires soft/softened water to achieve a good result so the components are deisgned to with this, and not hard water which will not only give a poor result but will actually damage the machine in time.
