Whiteware maker F&P Appliances saw its share price rise, after its US distribution partner Whirlpool added its name to a list of would-be buyers circling appliance maker Maytag.
Whirlpool offered $US1.3 billion to buy Maytag, the maker of Hoover vacuum cleaners and Jenn-Air appliances.
This tops a bid from private equity firm Ripplewood and could spark a bidding war with the Chinese appliance maker Haier also interested in buying Maytag.
Fisher & Paykel Appliances closed up almost 3% at $3.75 on Tuesday, with the market thinking F&P could be well-placed to supply its products to the larger business if Whirlpool’s bid succeeds.
