Hi, I’m a newcomer here (and relatively new to the trade), and wonder if anyone can help with a problem on a Zanussi FLS1383W (5 years old, hybrid timer/PCB setup, not heavily used). On wash, the drum fills to correct level and then stops – motor doesn’t turn. On spin, it just drains continuously – no spin.
The motor brushes appear original and less than half worn. I’ve checked all the resistance values across all motor terminals against the service manual – all OK. No insulation breakdown either. I’ve fitted a new PCB, as a couple of joints looked slightly overheated – fault remains. The timer motor resistance appears OK too. Any ideas, please?

The motor is controlled by the PCB, as is the timer advance. It more or less has to be the board. Assuming the wiring to be intact of course. There are two different versions of this machine, so pnc code needed. EMW or QER will supply reconditioned units, a cheaper option if there is any doubt about the diagnosis.

If you’ve fitted a brand new timer/pcb then the chances of that being faulty are not great ❗
This leaves wiring between pcb and motor. Check continuity from pcb right down through motor circuit. It should be easy enough to follow the wiring up from the motor to the pcb. If all seems well, try wiggling the wires about, especially at connectors, then check again.

Thanks for the tips, and reassurance. I took the part number for the module 1247052218 – from the Distriparts DVD, using the PNC from the machine – 91478057800. I’ve now printed off the circuit diagrams and will trace the continuity through the circuit as you suggest. I’ll post the outcome when I’ve solved it.

what motor have you got ce set is no bother but if its a sole check that the tacho magnet hasnt come loose

I had a similar problem on a Zanussi some time ago. I too checked the motor and then moved on. In the end it turned out to be the motor even though all coils had continunity. Try slaving in a second hand motor as a test.

If you’d like a second hand Sole motor, I’ve got a couple and maybe a Ceset. £15 each + post at cost(about a tenner). They’re smallish though,
so would need to know label details and dimensions.

I solved this eventually last Friday. Turned out to be a fault in one of the fast cam switches in the timer. I only found this out by substituting a new timer. Motor, pcb and wiring were fine.

It is annoying when you think you have eliminated something and it turns out the new part is faulty. I was asked to look at a central heating problem the other day. The hot water was getting too hot and the customer got a sparky to fit a new cylinder stat. This made no difference so he called me in to do a proper diagnosis. After continuity checks and functional tests I concluded that the new stat. was also faulty. 😯 I fitted another new one and that did the trick.

No, I had replaced the PCB only on my first attempt, not the timer. When I went back equipped with new motor, PCB and timer, only the new timer was needed. The old motor and PCB are back in the machine and working fine.
