I have a Zanussi FL1085 washing machine which is no longer spinning the drum, although it fills and drains. The drum very occasionally spins, but makes a nasty noise. When the cover is off the top you can see blue Arching coming from inside.
I’m guessing the motor is somehow faulty, I’d of thought if it had thrown a wind etc it would no longer work. Could the brushes just be worn and intermittantly making contact or is it a complete new motor that is needed? How long would the job take, is it worth it? Any idea where is the cheapist place to get the parts?

It sounds like the brushes have worn, only a physical examination will tell for sure though.
The brushes will vary according to the make of motor also as Zanussi use 2 or 3 types generally.
Power off when investigating please :zap:

That’s great thanks. Is there an easy way to access the brushes as the only way I can see to get to the motor at the back of the drum is to remove the whole case, there is no access plate?
By the way, out of intrest, there seems to be another motor (not the pump) at the bottom of the machine, under the drum, what is the purpose of this?
As you can tell I’m a bit of a novice at domestic appliances, but don’t worry the power is off as soon as it’s open.

Access the motor via removing the rear half panel, loads of screws, plenty of swearing!

i would advise you find someone to look at it that knows what they are doing as there is only one motor in there !

I just had a quick look at the machine late last night. I could see the motor at the bottom, but assumed that there was a motor on the back of the drum driving it, not the one at the bottom. But I could’nt tell without removing the machines case, now I know the motor at the bottom drives the drum via a belt I assume. I’ll have a better look when I have some more time and take the case off it, then inspect the motor brushes.
