ParticipantI thought I had these beggers “bossed” but I have had one today that I could have kicked out the window.
Went to it last week, fault from customer;– timer sticking on spin, two or three turns in distribution then dead. I tested it and ran it for one hour. no problems!!.
Had to return today for same fault, customer had left it in the fault position. I switched it on, full spin!! switched it off then on, fault occured. all components checked out ok, swaped module, fault still there. My money in on the selector switch, but I did not have one to try it out.
Anyone come across this one ?February 15, 2006 at 6:42 pm #163136maltheviking

Update. May be of use.
My suspicions were correct, the timer/selector switch was faulty. Stripped it down but could not see any problems, gears all ok. sync.motor OK

I think it’s that the carbon tracks get worn and carbon gets spread across the intervals so the slider contacts make intermittently when they shouldn’t. Cleaned up a Hoover one recently and it hasn’t come back yet.
(Only did it because got sent the wrong new part 😉 ).

Carbon Mike?, this one had gold plated tracks, but yes they were a bit “grubby”

I must be getting old. I thought I remembered seeing carbon tracks in there. Maybe it was just dust but I’m pretty sure it was that which was causing the problem. (Touch wood).

Or p’raps just the contact to it at the motor plug? Especially if it’s one of those insulation displacement terminal type things.

Did most of these checks first time, tacho, wiring loom. Tested the motor at its terminals and at the other end of the loom.

In the old days, before all the health and safety stuff and threats of regulation etc., a man would have been free to poke all possible loose connection areas with a long wooden stick to see if anything suddenly jumped into life. 😉

Or equally as good, a plastic Biro. Although I might get round to a rubber sledge hammer
