    BEWARE
    Hotpoint are now suppling “copy or patern” parts. Recently I recieved a genuine Hotpoint part, a top loader pump 151123. The label on the box was covering a second label. On peeling it off, I discovered a “Qualtex” label and part no. I took this up with the wholesaler who checked other boxs, all the same Qualtex.

    I have tried to email Hotpoint three times to enquire what there policy is towards “none genuine”parts , with no reply. Today I phoned H/P customer services and explained the problem. The reply I recieved was, that Hotpoint use different suppliers and the part would be “acredited”

    So it seems that there old policy, that only genuine spares should be fitted to their appliances is out of the window.

    I will now be quite happy to purchase Qualtex or other parts at a fraction of the cost of Hotpoint parts.

    They have been using that pump for several months now, I think I mentioned it on here at the time I first saw one early last year. The one with an awful plastic pulley. I have had problems getting the hoses to seal and have had to open and apply Debhor adhesive to one that leaked badly on installation. 😥 The non gen version of this pump has always been very poor compared to the original, with a very high failure rate.

    So far not aware of any other parts being substituted.

    Fitted the first one, tested machine, corbin clip shot off, no grip on the plastic. . It will be a good idea to “roughen ” the surface so as the flex drive gets a bit of grip. I learnt a long time ago to stand back when testing the pump, dented shins and all that. 😳

    I can understand what HP are up to, they have made an awfull lot of spares obsolite for the top loader and twin tubs, but have probably realised that some of these are only 7 years old, so parts will be requested. They will have done away with the manufacturing plant so they will have to buy in. 😳

    When I worked for them we were advising customers that spares would be available for ten years, after production stopped on any model. I checked with them and they tell me they never had such a policy. I am sure that it used to be advertised in the sales brochures.

    The trouble with these plastic pumps is that in order to secure the flexi drive, the corbin clip is useless in the extreme. The only solution is a jubilee clip and because that is ‘unbalanced’ it takes the pulley out within 18 months at best.

    Ive tried cable ties and they are no good either 😥

    Yep that’s what I was told as well, seems they have had a lapse of memory since Merloni took over 😉

    a few years back we opened genuine belts packets to find pre packed “homespare” belts inside. so this is not new. Ive also had boxed motors secondhand and once had a module with the block still on (had been cut off)

    As I recall from my days at Hotpoint, many moons ago we where told that the ‘parts available for ten years after last manufacture’ was part of the AMDEA code of practice that Hotpoint and most other manufacturers agreed to at the time.

    I was always amused by the label they included in the 161408 & 161410 motors that came out supposedly as new, they had in fact had new armatures & brushes fitted to old motors. They were not reconditioned or refurbished, oh no, something much grander, they had been ‘recycled’ 😆

    AMDEA have changed their code of practice on several occasions, I know as I used to have to work to it fro several manufacturers. Several little goodies have been dropped, like a call within two days, I guess because the OEM’s like Indesit and BSH can’t meet it. Nice position to be in though, if the rules don’t suit you, just change them.

    It sounds like some of you still do quite a few of the old toploaders. I’ve not seen one for at least 2 years, thank god 🙂

    top loaders used to be a regular big repair…….until the price of the PUK went through the roof. Last quote I got (two years ago) was for about £300. 😥

    Thats what they are up to, overprice parts, customers dont want repairs done, consequently HP dont have to stock to many old parts. 😥

    This thread has outlined that there seems to be a lot of affection for the old Hotpoint.
    I have many customers who still have the old Top loader and are discusted at what HP are up to. I sold a new T/L to a customer just before they went out of production and promised that the spares would be avilable for 10 years, she has had to scrap it because it wanted a power unit. Her comments,
    ” I have had Hotpoints for over 40 years, if this is what they are up to I will buy another make”.
    I wonder if HP know or care that they are shooting themselves in the foot. If HP watch Uk Whitegoods they must have picked up on the discontent, both customers and engineers. Well done Merloni, live of a one time excellent company, then screw it up. 😳

    Heavens this sounds like I am a PR man.!!!! If I was one for HP, I would be worried. 😥

    i don’t think they really care what the customer thinks. this is because until the public are aware that certain companies own so many different brand names, the odds are that when they change brand the customer will still be buying one of their products. i’ve many times turned up to a creda to be told that their last machine was a hotpoint and they made sure that they didn’t buy another one.

    i must say though that i’ve had exceptional service from bsh appliance care. on two occasions they have posted a free workshop manual. and i’ve even been faxed a wiring diagram to the customers house to sort out a machine after a diy attempt to repair a washer.

    fit new flex drive when fitting T/L pump stops clips from coming off also 7 /10 will leak if you do not re-seal gasket silcone works well .I also re-build p/unit if the support tube is still ok keep the faith

    The only flaw in that is that the support tube is the weakest part of the PU. 😥
