A South Yorkshire based electricals company has gone into administration after more than 80 years of trading.
Doncaster-based Miller Brothers, which employs more than 300 staff in 20 stores across the UK, closed to customers on Thursday and Friday.
Branches were due to reopen on Saturday as efforts were made to find a buyer for all or part of the business.
A spokesman for administrators BDO Stoy Hayward said the firm was unable to compete in the current climate.
‘Yorkshire stalwart’
He said: “The directors have looked at the future prospects of the business and decided it can’t continue in its current form.
“There has been a sea change in terms of how people will buy electrical goods. There is now significant buying over the internet rather than in stores.
“The firm is no longer able to operate in that market. It is a reflection really of the changing dynamic.”
He said Miller Brothers had been a “stalwart” in the Yorkshire area since it was founded in the 1920s, but had been badly affected by expansion efforts.
He said: “They took on the big boys, but they weren’t big enough.”
The spokesman said staff would continue to work in the stores while efforts were made to find a buyer for the business.
