ParticipantHi,
I replaced the controller board on my Smartdrive 058 (P/N 42607) and now it is reinstalled when I power on the machine and select the settings I want for the cycle (water level etc) it works as usual.
But when I press start it starts beeping constantly and won’t do anything. Is there some kind of reset I need to do before the new board will work?
I reinstalled the old one and it does the same thing as well. (but the problem with that was different, it would not fill/spin/anything before).
Any suggestions would be appreciated. My email is eastcoast@gmail.com
Thanks,
Ben.

Without the diagnostics this is a little bit of a shot in the dark…. It probably needs the size setting.
Hold down “temp up”, press “power”. For 5/5.5kg machines, press “temp up” – cold led will light. For 6/6.5kg machines, press “water up” – low water led should light. For 7/7.5kg machines, press “spin speed up” – spin hold should light.
Power off, then run the appliance.
If this doesn’t work you will need to run diagnostics and report the code back.
HTH,

hi sivercody here ,its just a tip but when replacing a motor controller u have to activate it by holding down start button then push power button then wait 10 seconds and push power again..also there is a little button under the console if u take the lid off by lifting it up..your’ll see it on the right hand side under the console if your lid doesn’t push that button in when u close the lid it wont work it will just beep when u push the start button,..start the machine up normally with the lid off and push the button in with your finger if it starts that means your lid is’nt pushing that button it.if it dosnt it might mean your obb swicht might be shot.. just try the first bit first..hope it works for u..by the way is the motor controller blue..

Hi,
Thanks for the replies. I did the procedure for the size setting (5.5kg) and activating the controller.
Now the machine seems to function correctly when selecting wash settings but when I press start the cycle is not working properly now.
It seems to do everything in pulses. eg. when filling water it will fill for a second then stop and then fill again.. similar thing happens if I advance to wash, it will make the motor turning sound then stop, start, stop etc.
I advanced it to spin and tried to look under the lid and it doesn’t look like the bowl is actually starting to spin at all, although it makes the normal sounds, it just stays in one place.
I’m not sure how bad this problem is, but would someone be able to give me the diagnostics codes to enter so I can post them?
Thanks for your help,

No, no – you run the diagnostics and tell us the code…….. 😀
What you do is:
Hold down “Temp Down”, then press “Power”. Machine should beep, twice. Press “Spin”, until both “Hold” and “Slow Spin” LEDs are lit. Read off from right to left the LEDs lit on the wash progress display. This is a binary code and will let us identify the nature of the fault. Most posters will post “10010011” for instance, where 1 is lit, 0 is not lit. We can work it out from there.Regards,

😀 Thanks for that.

I did that bit and it beeped twice as you said.
Press “Spin”, until both “Hold” and “Slow Spin” LEDs are lit. Read off from right to left the LEDs lit on the wash progress display.
But for this part should I be pressing “Spin Up” or “Spin Down”, tried both but the “Hold” and “Slow” LEDs didn’t light up.
Thanks again,

In theory, it shouldn’t matter Ben – keep going one way ’til the lights come up! If they don’t, I’m not sure what to make of it – computer problem of some sort?

ah I just needed to press it a couple more times.
This is the code I got (read from right to left) with slow+hold lit
00010001
I kept pressing up and wrote the codes for all the other options as well in case they are helpful, in brackets is what was lit.
00100000 (med)
11010001 (med+hold)
10010000 (med+slow)
11111110 (med+slow+hold)
01101000 (fast)
11010001 (fast+hold)
10010000 (fast+slow)
11111111 (fast+slow+hold)
01101000 (fast+med)
00010000 (fast+med+hold)
01100010 (fast+med+slow)

hi silvercody here,i think thats a motor out of sequence..try turning the machine off at the wall for 30 seconds & then back on at the wall then push and hold start button and together push power button, some fuctions sould come up just wait 30 seconds and then push power button again..also if this is a new motor controller u just put in u might have to set the size..if its a yellow motor controller push & hold down wash temp down & together push power button, all light will come on for a couple of seconds and then u can set the size …if its a( 5kg push the wash temp down button,)if its a (6kg push the low button) & if its ( 7kg push the hold button) the button r right beside each other..

Hi, thanks for your help Silvercody.
I tried what you suggested but I am still getting the same problem. The water still surges (1 sec on 1 sec off etc) when filling when I try to start cycle and the bowl does the same when trying to wash/spin etc.
What I did notice by accident though is if I press;
‘temp down’ + ‘power’ which causes the low led to be lit and then hold ‘temp down’ it fills like normal without doing the surging (while I keep holding temp down button).
I will mention this whole problem started one day after a load had come unbalanced a few times and the machine was making a banging sound, then it stoped and started beeping. We adjusted the clothes and tried to resume the cycle and then it started doing what I described the problem as.
EDIT: I will also just add that I filled it about half full then advanced it to rinse and it drains with out any problem (no surging as with the fill), and while it’s draining I can hear the bowl trying to turn and a dull clicking or slipping type sound, seems it is trying to turn it but can’t.
Cheers,

You’re in another test mode whereby you can run individual components. Have a read of this thread:
http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.p … &view=nextSeems to show similar faults.

hi silvercody here, the only two things that i can think of is might be the clear pressure tube & the liitle blue tube connected to the bowl might be bent from where it comes up from the top deck and connects to the motor controller, disconect it from the top and blow throught it to clear any thing.the second might be the oob swicth or micro swicth which is under the motor controller it might be worn out, make sure that the yellow wire pluged on the side of it & not at the end of it..that swicth can be tested by pushing that program i told u wash temp down ….ect……..when in the program stick your arm under the top deck and push back the little lever if a light comes on up where your advance lights r it means its works..

Thanks silver, but I think I’m going to have to give up on this machine.
I did what you suggested and they both seemed to be alright. But the top back on and tried to start a cycle.
It filled and started washing. But when it got to rinse stage it just stopped and did nothing more for a few mins then started beeping. Now I can’t get it to empty and if I start a new load it tys to fill more, even though it’s already completly full and nearly overflowing.

ParticipantRe: Fisher&Paykel Smartdrive 058 controller board help?
Well I decided to have another go and I got some new parts.
I replaced the Rotor Position Sensor (420296P), which was very tight to get in place. And also replaced the OOB assembly (420313).
I tried to test the new OOB by pressing “tempdown + power” and then moving it and waiting for a light to show on advance, but nothing happens. I tried the wires around both ways as well.
These new parts have changed my problem from surging of water (2 secs on, then off, on etc) and surging when washing. Now it just pulses when filling and does that for a while then stops and beeps. Same with spin, it makes pulsing noises with nothing turning and then stops and beeps.
What would this indicate? maybe the position sensor is not installed correctly, or would it be because the OOB is not showing correctly when tested?
Thanks,

Well, you appear to have lost the original fault…. I suspect that you’re going to have to bite the bullet and get some pro help. We’ve moved away for the original problems into new areas. Try running the diagnostics again and see of there are new codes, but I’m not sure how much further we can go with this.
