Firstly I’d like to thank UK Whitegooods, Dave Conway and Kenneth Watt in particular for providing a far cheaper alternative than seeking other sources for a recent dishwasher issue. Service was relaible and prompt from those in the frontline whose words of advice I trust the most.

Following on from that I now have another issue that requires advice from the experts here if anyone would be so kind.

I have a S20BRSB21-A/G American Style Whirlpool Fridge Freezer and the icemaker has not been working now for some time. The water outlet works fine but I am baffled as to the cause and wondered if this might be a problem encountered by any of you guys who might offer a cause and solution.
The appliance is not making ice and as such none is stored in the freezer.
Any words of advice would be much appreciated here and if it is considered to be a problem without a quick fix then I’d also appreciate a the name of a recommended engineer in Manchester if possible.

    Many thanks

    Hi,

do you have any water going into the ice maker tray?

The infra red transmitter and receiver need a clear line of site when the door is shut, through the top of the ice bucket, is this ok.

Is the right hand receiver flashing at you with the door open?

Try holding flush the left hand flap the right hand receiver should hold a steady red light. (you have simulated the door being closed)

    possible faults

    Receiver
    transmitter
    water valve
    module

Also try to check the water inlet spout to the ice maker is not frozen up.

    Hope that helps

    Kevin

For an engineer in Manchester try putting your details into our repairs at module.

    Hi,

Following up from Kevin that is all things to check, but make sure it is not the older version, cause they don,t have the infra red,I think the S20BRSB21-A/G is the older version with the steel, rod, arm in the middle of the ice maker.Have a look for that 1st.

    Cheers

Faulty Icemaker will give the same symptoms. If it’s not working it will never call for water.
As far as I remember the metal rod was in the early machines, ART720 and the like. The later machines, S20 series, have the ice storage in the door and use infra red optics.

Thanks to all who’ve replied and just to clear things up a little the model does employ an infra red light and this does not appear to be working.

No water is going into the ice tray but the water draw off is working fine.

Kevin I’m a little confused by your suggestion that to find a Manchester engineer I put details into “your repairs at module”
Please forgive my ignorance but could you explain this.

    Regards

    Tim.

Quickest way to check the feed pipe is to disconnect at the joint on the rear and run some water into it. (Tiny funnel is handy here). If it’s frozen no water will get into the ice maker. Saves having to find somewhere to put all the frozen food while defrosting.

Easier than that is instead of water, blow down it, you will know if its blocked if your cheeks expand like satchmo 😯

    Re: Whirlpool American style F/Freezer

Well, since this post I have determined that the infrared is not working and although I completed the request to book an engineer on the site, I haven’t yet received the call.

Can anyone provide an estimated cost of repair for a faulty infrared?
I have to say that the more recent posts regarding the Whirlpool Fridge Freezer with problems of a similar nature, suggest I’ve gone and bought a heap of trouble.
    Any views on this?

The infra red (if faulty) is two parts, the sender £41 and the reciever £71 to give an idea of costs.

Can you forward the email recieved from repairs@ to admin@ukwhitegoods.co.uk please Tim if you’ve had no contact 🙂

    Dave.
