ParticipantWM1510W Beko.
Bottom weight off. Bolts sheared off and ends buried half an inch into hole to point where broken.
New drum outer is not too bad at £48.16 +vat but add any mark up at all and the repair goes far over the magic ton.
I’ve never used easi-outs and I’m doubtful if it would be feasible given the rough sheared ends and it being into plastic.
I’m thinking of thick wire wrapped round concrete (after making grooves) and passed through holes drilled into plastic mouldings. Perhaps with rubber washers to provide buffering.
Anyone got any ideas or done anything like it successfully?

Hi
Do the job correctly or not at all
If you bodge the job you could be liable for any future failures and insurance claims.
If the bolts have broken then wire will not last.Mike

Stud extractor kit? Like for exhaust manifold bolts?

Sounds like a lost cause to me. If you try to drill out the broken bits the surrounding plastic will likely melt and you will end up at best enlarging the screw holes.

In similar situations easi’s will work but the best way is to start with as small as feasible drill and work up to the size required for the easi out … if you go straight in with the correct drill size it can all go horribly wrong … I dont envy you, good luck !!

There are anti clockwise drill bits available – used with reversable driver cost about £1, ideal for removing stud sheared etc, (when drilling clockwise this sometime causes stud to go in creating more problems)
When using the formentioned drill bit it generaly grips the stud and pulls it out. Hope this helps.

Imagine all that work and then the weight drops off, dents the cabinet and rips a hole in the tub.Is it worth it? No way. Why p*ss about on a load of rubbish? Tell them the true cost and to buy a better machine next time.
It’s not worth the hassle.

Hmm. Thanks for the advice. Think I’ll sleep on it for the weekend. Inclined to try easi-outs first and if that doesn’t work am thinking along lines of Gaffer/glass re-inforced tape twice/thrice around the drum! 😯 😀

I’m sure you are simply trying to wind us all up on that idea Mike and the earlier one about the wire around the drum too 🙄
Your in Penzance and not Dodge City after all (leave your guns with the Sheriffs office if you plan to stay)

Martin,
Your response suggests you don’t think either of those ideas would work.
Actually I get a great deal of pleasure applying my limited brain capacity to this sort of problem and if I can wind any of you up a little bit as well then that’s a bonus. 😆

we’ve done this repair before and its straight forward and the studs extract easily with “stud extractor”.
Hardest bit is the lack of space to get the drill in comfortably.
Do not overtighten the new bolts when you finish, they’ll shear again.

Rob,
We’re talking BEKO here! The people who make ISE!

Thanks Kevin.
Can you tell me where I can buy a good stud extractor? May try Halfords on my way past there this evening. Does thread lock/nutlock work well on metal to plastic?

Whoops 😳 But some difference I think. I do lots of BER bearings under guarantee and sick of the sight of Beko!!!! including broken bolts.

Huge difference 😉
ISE has a completely different drum than those models plus the bearings are larger than standard 🙂
