ParticipantWent to this machine today and it’s turning out to be a nightmare job. First of all the machine can’t be pulled out because there’s a CH radiator in the way. It has to be lifted over the radiator and I’m not about to attempt that 🙄 The symptoms suggested motor brushes so I looked at the motor by tipping the machine back. I then realised that you can’t take the back off so its a real pain getting the motor out. I could not work out how to get at the brushes so I stripped the motor but I still don’t know how to get the brushes out of the brass holders. The carbons listed by Connect for this model are loose with springs and a C shaped end tag. Can anyone advise me on this job?
Many thanks, PhilMay 18, 2006 at 6:52 pm #176941Penguin45

The whole brush ring can be removed from the end of the motor, then brushes changed. You can do it through the front easy peasy, probably more awkward from underneath.

I have the brush ring off, that was the easy bit…..
I can’t see how you could fit the belt from the front. The wire from the carbon seems to be welded to the holder part way down its length then extends to clip into a socket in the brush ring. Do I need to cut the old wire off and solder the new one in?

You should be able to fit belt from top, just locate it onto motor shaft first & then t one side of pulley, sometimes i’ve used a cable-tye to secure it, then slowly rotate drum & it should go on to drum pulley ok. by the way tou didn’t need to take off motor or belt to change brushes, whole job is done from frot of machine, remove front cover & front of motor comes off be careful when putting back on, make sure locating pins go in ok & push brush all the way in to armature from both sides with a little screwdriver, best of luck with it.

The ones I ordered are supposed to be genuine Miele (MLE1689370)
That’s why I thought it odd that they don’t just clip in or whatever. Thats interesting, splitting the motor with it still in place, never thought of that. -
