Machine switched on; programme selected; few seconds later the prewash lamp flashes continuously – start button has no function. ‘Door open’ lamp still lit. Door interlock does not activate.
Changed the door interlock – no difference. But when the machine is switched off and then switched on again with the start button held, door lock activates. 😕 Every now and again the water valves will ‘blip’ momentarily.
I am pretty sure it’s the PCB at fault but with the customer only wishing to spend £100 at most on a repair, I need to be sure when I call him tomorrow.
Thanks in advance for any info,Steve.

Pre wash light flashing is either…
1) Child lock activated
2) A failure that has to be investigated by an engineer.By that I mean powering down will not clear the fault.
To enter fault diagnostic
1) power off
2) timer at 12 oclock position
3)press and hold start button whilst turning power ON, STAR icon will start to flash within 3 seconds
4) turn timer knob to any SPIN programme
5) press start button once more
6) Read the binary code of lights on the right hand side of the control panel.Read top to bottom: on =1, off =0
7) after noting the failure, erase the error code by once again pressing the start button** for three seconds this time***
The fault LED’s will extinguish.the following are the indicated binary code, reading top to bottom
10000 NTC
01000 Heater
00100 Triac on the board
10100 Pump open circuit
11100 Water level sensor
01100 Motor or tacho open circuitThere are more fault codes but these are the ones responsible for the pre wash light flashing.
Watch out on the pump, some have a fuse link in the wiring, pump test ok, but the wiring won’t.
Over foaming can also bring on this fault as the electronics is measuring “current” drawn by the components.
To exit the above fault diagnostic……power off once fault cleared.
Hope that helps

Thanks very much for the replies. I’ll try the diagnostic route today – great to have that ‘inside’ information. Cheers!!! 😀

ParticipantOn this model i have had several of these faults and normaly find the pump struggling Due to the board you have to replace both pump and board or it nocks the pump out again

Thanks all! But as usual, with the utterance of the words ‘PCB or computer failure, madam’, the reply comes, ‘Nah, don’t worry, I’ll go and get a new machine’. 🙄 .
At this rate, the highest peak on the planet will be the white goods mountain; never mind Everest. 👿July 9, 2006 at 10:27 pm #179367Penguin45

Last board I bought for one of these was about £45 – very affordable.
Pre-wash option lamp flashing indicates “child lock” function; pre-wash programme lamp flashing is a technical fault – every one I’ve seen to date has been a board fault.
