Re: Defrost cycle on F/F Freezer?
Hi Martin….essentially the defrost the defrost process is controlled by a timer (used to be mechanical but now usually electronic) which periodically switches off the compressor circuit and switches on a defrost heater to melt any ice build-up on the evaporator. The heater is controlled by a small stat or thermistor which switches off the heater when it’s above zero i.e. the ice has melted.
After a set period, the timing device switches the heater cicuit off and the compressor back on to continue with the cooling process.
If the compressor is continuously running it suggests there may be a problem as it itself is controlled by a stat (probably the pcb in your case). Most likely the compressor is a little worn and struggling to keep the cabinet at a low enough temperature….if the fan is continuously running on it’s own then you need to check that the compressor is actually running. If the compressor is red hot and not running then you’ll prolly need a new freezer i’m afraid 😥
