I can switch this on, select any program, press start and there are 2 beeps. If I keep the start button pressed down, the cycle will start. As soon as I release the start button, at any point the cycle stops immediately.
I have tried the reset on this site (door open press start several times) but no difference.
There are no error messages on the display
    Any help at all please???
    🙁

More or less has to be a computer board fault 🙁 . Worth getting the soap dispenser checked out as well – dodgy solenoid coils cause all sorts of weird faults.

In view of the expense of the component, pro help would be your best course of action – click the link below for an engineer in your area.

Power off if you intend to investigate further.

Thanks for the response – had noticed the soap dispenser did not always open in the cycle prior to more recent total “shutdown”, but not being technically minded have no idea whether this is relevant / connected in any way.

Possibly Abercam, but as P45 says, it’s a bit of an odd fault you have there. I’ve seen quite a few Smeg machines beign an agent for them and I’ve not seen one do that as you describe. I have seen the inability to get the program entered and from memory I think the PCB was at fault. But like P45, I’d advise you get some pro help as it could be an expensive mistake if you guess at it.

    Re: broken smeg dishwasher

    Thank you K / P45.
Given the unusual (possibly terminal) nature of the problem / expensive call out charge with no guarantee of any fix, or certainly an expensive one at best, I am tempted to cut my losses on this one and go for a new machine.
My problem here is I went for what I thought would be a good model (certainly not the cheapest), and it’s lasted less than 2 years. (I had similar “bad luck”going for a good name oven and having endless call-outs). So I’m looking at cheaper models
My dishwasher has to be stainless steel fronted (unless I replace every other cupboard/appliance in my kitchen), and cold water fill (but I gather all modern machines are this anyway):
Any thoughts on the Beko DWD8650x (£230 3yr warr)/ Baumatic Suprema1 (£270)/ Siemens SE25M851GB (£360) – I have lost some faith that more expensive is worth it if you have to replace a machine so soon ?? 😥

My advice is to go back to Smeg with your grievance and explain that you’re not happy about the failure. 😉

Before throwing the towel in on this one, the above is relevent as the solenoid (as Pengiun mentioned) can cause havoc with the software on these.
