Electrolux has said it plans to cut 129 jobs at its factory in Mariestad, Sweden.

The company has notified authorities and will start union negotiations shortly, spokesperson Anders Edholm said in an interview.

Electrolux in 2005 announced it was laying off about 150 employees at the plant as profitability fell. The company has moved production to cheaper labour markets such as former Soviet States and the Far East.

“Now that the volume has declined we can move to day shift only, which means that we need fewer employees” in Mariestad, Edholm said. The plant will have about 700 employees after the reduction, he said.
