ParticipantHello,
Our Whirlpool ADG722 office dishwasher is starting to smell, it still cleans ok, but although the mugs are clean, they have a bit of a nasty whiff. The dishwasher itself is bad enough to make you gag
How do you clean it? What products can be used to clean it and where do you put salt? as it’s been in the office for about five years and no one has ever cleaned or put salt in it, so i’m imagining that could be something to do with it…don’t blame me, i’m new!! 😉
Thank you!!

Plenty of useful info here. http://tinyurl.com/ovvw5
The salt compartment is fairly obvious on most dishwashers. Usually a large round cover in the base that you unscrew to fill with special dishwasher salt. A must do in hard water areas.

😯 how has it been washing without salt?
To clean it select a hot program without a pre-wash. Start the dishwasher (with salt) and what to see if any water drains out. when you hear it start to fill stop and open the door. add half a cup of white vinager and re start the machine. If its really bad you might need to do it twice, you can bye cleaners for dishwashers but the white vinager is just as good and a lot cheeper. 🙂 Also make sure the water jets in the spray arms are clear.

There are many hundreds of dishwahers in this ‘ultra soft water’ part of the country that have worked perfectly for many years without salt of any kind.

Tha’s feeling lucky then, Iadom? 😀 😀
Ok – do you have hard water or not? Take the lid off the office kettle and take a look – if it’s scaled up, the water has chalk in it – if it doesn’t the water is probably pretty soft. However, you should top up (and keep topped up) the salt chamber, even allowing for low usage. There are proprietary dishwasher cleaners available which can be dropped in the basket and will operate when temperature is reached, alternately, a Jif lemon emptied into the the machine when you hear the dispenser go “Clunk” is also extremely effective.
Vinegar is acetic acid and has different properties when compared to citric acid (an active ingredient in most cleaning products). It also lacks the nice odour at the end 😀 .
You may have to repeat the process several times if the machine has become particularly smelly, but it will come clean. Eventually.

ParticipantIf its bad then yes but the vinager used every couple of months stops the problem and its a lot cheeper.

Point of order chaps – we don’t do spelling, grammar, or anything else. We do do abuse, swearing and personal insults. All are welcome to post, whatever their opinions, all are welcome to reply. Don’t make it personal, or this group of posts may not be here in the morning.
