General Electric Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Immelt will meet with Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi Wednesday, the Italian government said.
In a statement, the government said the meeting would take place at 1600 GMT at the premier’s office in Rome, without providing further details
An Italian government official said the possible sale of GE’s iconic appliance business may be one of the topics of discussions, but cautioned he didn’t know the details of their agenda.
The GE chief last month said the possible sale of the company’s $7.2 billion appliance business was still in the early stages, adding that Haier Group, LG Electronics and Electrolux were potential buyers.
Italian appliance maker Indesit may be interested in bidding for GE’s appliance unit, Italian business daily Il Sole-24 Ore reported last month.
