Hi 🙂
Ive had 2 frost free fridge freezers today with the evaporates frozen rock solid as they do and was wondering how some of you guys defrost them ❓ repairing them doesnt seem to be a time comsuming job, but getting rid of all that sodding ice is 🙁 Has anyone got any tips 🙂

Hair dryer, bowl of hot water and syringe for said hot water.

We use hair dryers….
been to quite a few that have had repeated defrosts using steam clearners causing cabinet damage.
Hair dryers are slow but get there in the end.

Have used hair dryers before still can take 3/4hrs just to defrost it . I thought there may be a quicker way than that 🙁 Ive started using a hot air gun with a low heat setting but still takes 30 to 45 mins .

i use mini steamer..the one you get out of woolys etc..
wife got it after seeing advert on telly, used it once so i blagged it.
works a dream…
10-15 mins depending on level of ice…
wouldn,t leave home without it now

Penguin Steam Cleaner works a treat, heavily iced 20-30 mins, no pun on Penguin45 intended here 😆

Easy, Just stick your biggest cooling fan in front of the freezer, Put a couple of towels down, Less than an hour, job done.

Apparently a steam cleaner is not the correct method of defrost as it damages the insulation causing pockets where ice can form and cause problems.

Something mentioned on Saturday about blown thermal fuses as well.

been to some samsungs, expert appliances been to, and used steamers, the back panel has been melted to expose the insulation!!!!! 😯

On the “american” type (samsung,LG,daewoo) you can put the fridge or freezer or both in forced defrost mode to bring on the heaters (if they work) while you attack with a hair dryer. This cuts down defrost into minutes!
Press and hold “power freeze+fridge temp” for 8 sec.
You will then get a continual bleeping.
Press fridge temp again to turn off compressor and press again to put heaters on for fridge, again for both fridge/freezer.For other models, I found it a bonus to make up some leads that will plug into the various heaters found (if they are working-test first) attached to a flying lead that you can plug into an RCD protected extention.
