NEW YORK – A new Web site aims to usher Americans away from their throwaway tendencies.
RepairClinic.com aids tinkerers looking to repair their refrigerator, air conditioner, microwave or other kitchen appliance. The site dishes out advice on fixing the contraptions and sells spare parts and factory manuals to help.
Web pages detail the workings of typical appliances and a “repair guru” takes specific e-mailed questions that aren’t answered on the site. RepairClinic.com includes a step-by-step “part detective” for tracking replacement parts – which it also sells online – even without the model number.
The site, however, sticks to typical kitchen “white goods” and skips radios, VCRs and other consumer electronics. Still, Ben Franklin would have been proud.
