🙁 My Hotpoint WMA35 is about 5 years old. I could have had the £90 repair done, but they messed us about so much and did not arrive for the scheduled appointment. Anyway I decided to tackle the drum bearing job myself. I am quite hand but I do have a habit of making the odd mistake.
I managed to pull the whole thing appart and replace the drum bearings, thanks to a VCD manual I got from E-bay. I put it all back together, but…… I forgot where the wires went on the control board. Most can’t go anywhere but where they are assigned. However there are 3 pairs of wire in blocks that could be anywhere.
One pair is double red, one is double black and the other is blue and black. I tried putting them where I thought, but the machine did not do things, like pump, or spin.So 1. Have I broken the ciurcuit board control by putting the wires in the wrong place?
2. Where should they go? I see the board is marked with things like x5 x11 etc.
3. Predominantly the machine refuses to spin. It will trun on cycle and it will pump (depending on where I put those wires)
What a mess. Should have called out the expert. But I did think that my bearing job was not bad for an amateur, but like I said I do make silly mistakes….. Help?Re: Hotpoint WMA35 did I mess it up?

Very likely you have blown the pump triac on the board if you incorrectly switched the 2 Blacks for the 2 Blue & Blacks then the boards a gonna! 😯
A new board is part number 1604321 and costs about £75 so not too bad if you don’t blow that one up that is?
(I know its crying over spilt milk and stuff but what a pity you never took up the 5 year parts warranty. Hotpoint would have put in a whole new modified drum unit. )

Thanks. I guess I got fed up with Hotpoint for never turning up. Oh well Unless anyone can offer any solution other than chuck it…… I guess a new washer is on the cards… what to buy?

Shame to throw it away after all that work. But it’s too old to go investing in a new curcuit board. I mean the shaft looked a little beat up when I took it appart. Also there were 3 bolts missing on the three pronged thing at the back of the drum. Quality build for you!!!
So there must be someone out there with a broken WMA 35 or similar, or a second hand curcuit board… or one in a recycling depot??????

If you haven’t replaced the drum shaft your new bearings will fail in less than 6 months. The worn shaft is the sole reason the bearings failed anyway! 😥

This is common and is not a fault, one bolt in each arm is enough, in fact you could say that two in each is over engineered, 😉 At a guess around 75{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the ones I see do have 6 bolts fitted. I replaced a drum support spider on a German made AEG last week that had corroded and snapped due to low temp washes with liquid detergents, that only has 3 securing bolts. The original water seal on the WMA model was badly designed, ( my guess is that Hotpoint did not actually design this seal) causing premature bearing failure, its replacement, the Rubena seal has been very reliable in comparison, the actual drum support spider used in these machines is one of the strongest in current use.Jim.

Thanks for all your expert information and advice. It looks as though it’s best to move the thing on. Please will someone tell me I did a challenging job in replacing the bearing, even though I blew the rest of the circuits up
