ParticipantHey there – firstly, thanks for all the advice and ideas in this site – really helpful!
We’ve had the above dishwasher for 18months now – all fine ’till now! My wife reported that the machine stopped working recently – she saw smoke coming in between it and the cupboards! So called an engineer – he said it’s the control board – can replace it but wouldn’t bother – not worth the cost!
I was trying to remove the machine before the new one arrved when I thought I’d try to turn it on and get it emptied by using the pump! Guess what?! It worked fine – no probs. So I ran a couple of wash cycles – all ok! It’s been fine for over a 2 weeks now.
Broke again this morning though. Stopped working, tripped fuses! When I turned power on, big bang and fuse tripped. Turned power on again, this time wth machine turned on too, all ok?!! It’s finishing it’s cycle as I type this!
Any suggestions? I’ve booked the sparky for tomorrow to check it’s not the electrics! Just in case!
Am happy to have a go at anything with the machine!
Hope someone can help!!
Thanks
Andrew

Burnt wall socket and plugtop I expect, not the machine at all?

Worth checking the mains supressor, thay have a tendancy to go west.
Power off if investigating please. 😀

Mouse damage to the mains cable?…plug top stuck to bitumen soundproofing on the back of the machine?….faulty supply socket?….leak from draining board above?…

Ok, so I guess from all your comments that you all think it’s nothing to do with the actual machine itself! Could be the Suppressor as suggested – i’ll see if I can find that and the spare for it!
We’ll see what the sparky find tomorrow and I’ll check the socket later tonight.
Strange that it should happen all of a sudden? Nothing’s changed!
Cheers

Just to add, occassionally the heater ‘O’ rings sealing to sump weep and dribble onto motor and edge connector, where arcing and popping can also be heard.

Mains suppressor is best bet – inside of plate where cable joins. P/no 179798 – spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will get you one if required.

Sparky has visited today and has told us not to use the machine as there is a serious issue with the earthing of the pulg! He has banned us from using the socket!
I don’t see how this would affect the appliance though – just might give me an electric shock?
Am happy to replace the “capacitor – interference” part given by Penguin. This is in the parts list I have from Bosch! But how is it best to get access. I can get partial access by removing the side panel. The only other route I can see is to lift the whole case (meaning what you load the dishes into!)off the bottom?! Is that really the only way to get access to the motor sump and all the other parts underneath?! Seems a bit excessive!
Have to say – it’s giving me a great insight into the world of electronics!
Cheers again!

From memory, the access panel will slide to the right for removal.

Update –
Sparky has now been and added an earth to the socket. He suggested that as the live and neutral were travellling through an “earth vacum” (caused by our apparently dodgy electrics – news to us!) this could have caused all sorts of problems. Including some of what weve experienced. So far so good – we’ve run the machine 2 or 3 times and it’s all ok!
Looks like we’ve found the problem! If it happens again, I’ll just replace the supressor (getting the part from Whitegoods of course!)
Thanks for all your advice!

Thanks for the update, I was pretty sure it wasn’t the dishwasher at fault! 8)
