According to Italian newspaper and online reports this dispute continues to be the center of the attention for the politicians in the regions affected by events at Antonio Merloni. The manufacturer is known in the UK under the Servis and Electra brand names.
The long crisis of the Group Antonio Merloni SpA, with plants in Umbria, Marches and Emilia Romagna, regions that have manifested own collaboration with the institutions for them to have a share in the management of the crisis.
But, the group has been placed in extraordinary administration, according to of the decree-law (so-called “Marzano law”), procedure then which extended also to the societies controlled from the group: Antonio Merloni Cylinder & Tanks Srl, Tecnogas SpA and Elmarc SpA.
Notably none of the other Antonio Merloni companies are affected.
Still no real progress appears have not been made in sorting the group out and getting it back to a normal and stable trading situation.
It would appear that the whole matter has even come to teh attention of Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and to the minister of the economic Development, Claudius Scajola who appears to be the main minister dealing with the Merloni “crisis”.
However the Italian regions affected by the issue are much more concerned about their local workforce and infrastructure as the situation drags on. One of the primary reason being that many spare part and component suppliers to Antonio Merloni are also based in the same areas and they are deeply concerned about a “knock-on” effect causing these companies to face difficulties as well.
As yet there seems to be little end in sight for the beleaguered business other than a bail out package from either the European Union, the Italian Government or a combination of both. With it being a hotbed of politics on a local level within Italy don’t be shocked to see a partial, if not full, rescue package by the Italian government.
