ParticipantMaplins have just opened a brand new store in Basingstoke, so I pop in there for a replacement resistor, like you do!
I plonk the module on the counter and point to the duff resistor (see photo). Shop assistant says, “We’ve got hundreds of them!”…..But I only want one, I replied! He continued….”but you need to look it up in one of our catalogues first, then give me the stock number before I can pick it for you?”…..Have you got a catalogue I can look at then?…”Sorry sir, we’re waiting for them to be delivered from head office, but Alan our technical bod would be able to help you but unfortunately he’s off sick at the moment!” 😯
So having ventured into a store that had thousands of resistors in stock, probably hundreds just like the one I needed, I felt like a eunoch in a brothel….and left empty-handed! 😥
So if anyone can glance at the photo and tell me what I need, I will be eternally grateful? I guess it’s what Maplins call a ‘wire wound resistor’ but I need to know its wattage I believe? Preferably if you could give me the Maplins Catalogue number, then I could go into their store again and grab one for myself? 😀

Do you have an account with connect? part number RC55K6. This is a 5 watt resistor which I think is right. This is the same resistor used on servis modules. (Maplins do a 2 watt 5k6, d5k6. Dont think this will suffice).

nice photo, its a long time since I did any electronics but I believe 5k6 is another way of writing 5.6k! as in kilowatt.

A 5.6 kilowatt resistor?…pull the other one, its only a Merloni module not a Empire State Building lift controller!
😆

KeymasterMartin resistor is 5.6 KOhms (5600Ohms) 5 Watts. You can put there even one bigger(10Watts) if is fiting on electronic house and don’t touch or is not near to anything made from plastic because he’s getting quit hot… you can find one of this on most of AEG programmers(timer)
If you don’t find 5k6 you can put two 12KOhms(3Watts) resistor in paralel instead.December 15, 2006 at 11:15 am #197888admin
KeymasterAt closer look in your picture it seems to be only 3Watts resistor.

on a new module they replaced that resistor with a cement encased noninflammable version. if its the module i think it is .

Thanks guys, so its a 3 watt or maybe a 5 watt then? It actually fits a Merloni jeremy so which one of this lot is best for me to get? :-

Oh flip and darn! Now what am I going to do? (Where’s andy2 when you need him? :rolls: )
I’ve got Mrs Woman’s duff module to sort, she can’t spin her smalls, her kids are running around in mucky underwear, all for the want of a 5k6 resistor…..Blimey! 😕
Who was it that said… “A resistor, a resistor, my kindom for a resistor!”
Hey! Ho!
