Gorenje reported a profit of €3.4 million (approx. US$5 million) in 3Q 2009.
“In the third quarters, sales rose most notably in Eastern and South-East Europe,” it said in a statement, adding that sales in Western Europe continued rising but market conditions remained very difficult.
Sales in the third quarter reached €298 million euros (US $443 million) and were 6% higher than in the second quarter of this year. Overall, January-September sales of €866 million ($1.28 billion) were still down 12.7% from the same period of 2008.
Given this news it is unlikely that Gorenje will now seek a government bail out.
