Can someone please advise me – I have just moved into a house which has an electrolux EW1200I washer dryer, I thought it worked fine but then noticed it made a mad screeching sound occasionally (usually during the spin) for about 10 seconds. Then I noticed that the dryer part doesnt work on it either. I opened up the top and noticed that the fan belt had fallen off so i reattached it and tried it again – I think it is still too loose but have a feeling that if I replace it, there is still something else wrong with it.

Could this all be down to the fan belt?!? 😥

Doubt it, probably the fan assembly needs replacing?

Click the link below for a local engineer to fix it. 😉

You can replace the little fan drive belt easily enough – p/no 1240827-30/1, about £12 ( 😯 ) from memory. An email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk to order.

Shreiking noises can be a bit difficult to identify. Worn drain pumps, noisy drive motor bearings, slack drum drive belt are all possibilities.

If you opt for pro help, you can use the repairs@ link below for one of us to come out. Labour rates vary widely across the country, so you should discuss this when making an appointment. Bear in mind that the machine is built-in, so the engineer will need extra time for removal and refitting as well as any repair.

Being built-in means that it is an “added value” machine, so replacement with a machine of comparable quality is likely to run to c.£500.
