According to reports today Whirlpool spent $200,000 in the fourth quarter to lobby the US federal government on appliance energy tax credits and other issues, according to a disclosure report.
That’s down 13 percent from the $230,000 that appliance maker spent in the year-ago period, and 38 percent less than the $320,000 it spent in the third quarter of 2009. So perhaps the economic downturn has had some effect in this area of spending as well.
Whirlpool also lobbied the federal government on legislation involving the Clean Renewable Energy & Conservation Act, the Consumer Product Safety Administration Act and duties on some laundry work surfaces and over-the-range microwaves, along with other issues, according to the report filed on January 21st.
In the October-to-December period, Whirlpool lobbied Congress, the White House, the Department of Energy and the International Trade Administration, according to the report filed with the House clerk’s office.
It is unknown what manufacturers spend in Europe or, the UK, in a bid to sway governments and there is little to no evidence to suggest that this happens.
