ParticipantHi,
I have a Siemens dishwasher, similar to a SE26T551GB, but the slightly older model (about 3 years old).
When a normal programme is selected the machine seems to run through the cycle, but just keeps going. When the door is opened the machine has water, and is washing and the display show 1 minute left (but by the last minute of the cycle the water should have gone), and the machine will stick on 1 minute for ever…
When the rinse cycle is selected the machine will empty and cycle perfectly.
Is this a common programmer or sensor fault ?
How do you get into one of these machines to work on it, i can’t seem to get to any of the workings other than the programmer…
Any help much appreciated.
regards,
AbingdonBoy.

Hi
It sounds like the usual fault that affects the Bosch appliances.
Before attempting the next operation, please un-plug appliance :plug:Remove the filters inside cavity and mop up the residual water from there.
Then if you remove the lower panel below the door to gain access to the clear ribbed pipe that runs horizontally from the metering unit to the sump.
Pull that pipe off it is only ‘O’ ringed in and clean thoroughly.
That 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time will sort. To stop this from re-occuring you are far better giving the dishes a quick rinse under the tap before loading into machine.

Hi,
Removed the pipe, and although there was some waste in it, it was slight, and it hasn’t solved the problem…
Any other ideas?

AB.

Hi
When its been on a wash and you open the door, does steam hit you in the face??
If not there is a good chance that you have a heating fault.Greg

Hi Greg,
no hadn’t thought about it, but yes, the water is cold. So its a heating fault, how complex is that to fix?
Cheers,
AB.

That would be error code 1 which relates to it not heating

Most likely dry joints on the pcb, if not then the heater has let go.
Click the link below for professional help, but if having a go yourself then you must unplug before doing anything

Hi Clive/Greg
Right, i have stripped the programmer down to the PCB, but can’t see any dry joints. I assume that the heater is fed through one of the relays on the board? But is it ‘K1’ or ‘K2’ ?
What is the colour coding on the heater wiring and what should the resistance be ?
Anything else i should be checking ?
Many thanks for your help so far…

AB.

Hi
We cant give explicit information out unfortunately but I will give you some pointers.1/ In a wash cycle, is there sufficient water in the appliance, ie- water level should just be below lower spray arm.
2/ The heater is accessible by removing the r/h panel, and will measure app 25-35 ohms.
Un plug appliance before attempting any investigations :plug:

Hi Greg,
right i am really getting somewhere nw, i have measured resistance directly accross the heater, and it’s open circuit, so my heater has gone…
But how do i get the heater out? Is there a special tool to remove the plastic flange from the manifold? where is best to get the replacemetn part? why would the heater on such a young machine have gone? Coud it have blown because something else is faulty?
Many thanks,
AB.

Hi
Unfortunately it is a complete unit p/no 496153 £48+Vat and costs, available from spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk.
Access is from underneath, it is not an easy job be warned.
Heaters can blow just like a light bulb does; for no apparent reason, just one of those things Im afraid.
Rarely when these blow they may cause damage to the module, just to make you aware of a possible further cost.
If you should feel worried about undertaking task then please feel free to use the engineers link below.

Hi AB
Have a look in Shop@ on the left. If it’s not listed then a quick email will get results.
As far as more detailed advice on access and replacement we can go no further (rules of the forum)…basically, if we advise and you hurt yourself/your property in the process then there could be an element of liability going our way.
Once again, isolate from the power before doing anything :zap:

Well the machine is now working again. It was the heater element.
To replace the heater is quite straight forward, but it does require the whole machine coming apart…
Its not too bad, and everything is T20 Torx headed, except the salt cover nut, which could cause you problems, i used one of those universal clamp things that you use to hold big things together while glue dries, but a big adjustable spanner or a big grip wrench is probably better if you have one.
Here is a quick rundown –
Remove-
-the top (two clips at the back, then slides off)
-both sides (a few screws).
-the inner and outer front kick plates (few screws).
-the door outer cover/trim (quite a few screws)
-the heat exchanger to the left of the machine on the side (screws and clips)
-the salt fill cover and big sealing nut.
-the two clamps holding the white pump housing to the base of the washing compartment (stainless steel box), and the two screws holding the grey pipe.
-The door counter balance springs(unhook at the door hinge with the door in the up position.
-few screws around the s/steel boxNow the full stainless steel box can be lifted free, and allowed to hinge forward on the door hinges.
Replace the heater and reassemble. Easy!!!
As others have stated, don’t attempt unless you are mechanically and electrically competent, and always remember to switch off the power.

AB

Hi All,
The dishwasher has a new fault!
Since the last fix (not sure if it is connected or not) the machine has been filling with the waste water from the sink. Have i reassebled something wrong? What should i be looking for?
Cheers,
AB.
