Appearance
“Bobbles” on the surface of cotton fabric, caused by broken fibres which may also give the appearance of fading.
This damage cannot and will not be caused by your washing machine being faulty, it is a result of incorrect cycle choice for the fabrcs being washed and/or using the wrong detergent for the garments.
Treatment
“Bobbling” can be removed by brushing, cutting or picking “bobbles” from the fabric. There is no treatment for fading once it has happened, although fabrics can often be redyed.
Cause & Prevention
Cause
When cotton or cotton rich garments are washed and worn repeatedly the friction causes fibres to break leaving bobbles on the surface.
This is most often caused by using the incorrect wash cycle that has too strong a wash action, a higher than recommended drum agitation level for the fabric.
Prevention
Use the correct wash cycle and follow the care labels on the garments.
Cause
Fading of fabrics happens mainly with cotton. Repeated washing and wearing can cause the loss of some dye intensity. This effect occurs less with better quality dyed fabrics and by choosing the correct detergent.
Prevention
Use Ariel Colour or an alternative colour detergent to reduce fading and keep your clothes looking newer for longer.
