ParticipantDue to the help from this web site and the subsequent resolving of my washing machine problems, my wife has decided that I should now try and fix the eletronic ignition on our Bosch gas hob (about 8 year old) which hasn’t worked for 5 years, there is no model number visible. I am happy to try the fix as long as it is fixable from the top. Does UKspares stock this item and the following ones please, she would also like to replace the pan and rack for the oven model number HBN 220AGB..
Any help gratefully received.
Thanks RMarch 20, 2007 at 2:43 pm #208374Martin

Unfortunately whilst you may have been able to fix your washing machine using help from this site, I’m afraid gas appliances are treated differently by us. In fact we do not condone DIY repairs to gas hobs and always recommend you contact a local CORGI registered repairer or contact Bosch directly for one of their engineers to call on you. In fact dealing directly with Bosch would easily resolve your needed replacement pan and rack also? 😉

Thank you Martin for the advise,, I just thought that fixing the igniter wouldn’t involve touching any gas connections,, if it did I wouldn’t even consider it..
I even wondered if might be a battery somewhere that might need changing,, could that be a possibility, if so surely that wouldn’t need an engineer would it??

Whilst i agree with Martin , as a quick check , have you checked if the hob has a mains cable with a plug on it. Theres always the chance that the fuse might have gone ( always check the simplest things first ) As for the hob model number , it will prob be on a sticker on the under side . If you have a drawer underneath it , removing the drawer should let you see it…..if the oven is below it , well thats a different matter !!!

The hob was bought at the same time as the oven and matches, so maybe the model number is similar.

Good afternoon gents.
We ll I said I was positive the hob didn’t have a mains cable,, how wrong I was, it’s a good job I didn’t decide to become a service engineer when I was a young man, goodness knows how I would have finished up.
I did find the mains cable and checked that fuse was ok, which it was, so can I take it from that there is nothing else I can do myself.
Is the hob likely to be connected to a flexible gas supply pipe, I just thought if it was then I could ease the hob out and maybe replace the faulty ignitor. If you chaps believe I should leave it all alone and use matches, then thats what I will do..

Might seem a silly question but is it switched on? Whilst the fuse may be OK, if there’s no supply to that fuse it won’t work. 😉

Martin,,, The power supply plug for the hob is next to the oven power supply plug on a double switched socket. I have swapped them round just to make sure the socket isn’t faulty. The oven works on both, the hob doesn’t work on either.

In that case its more than likely the ignition unit or spark button/ gas tap switch array thats at fault; without a model its hard to tell which you have 😕
As Martin has previously stated, you will need a Corgi engineer, even though it is the electrical side. 🙂Greg

hello gegsy
Thanks,, I very much appreciate the care you people take over safety, just to clarify I will not be touching any gas connections.but I would like to be able to lift the hob even just to clean under the edge..Not to linger on this point but do you reckon it could have a flexible pipe that will allow me to lift it.

Hi
The new installations now have to be hard piped, older may be on flexi hose.
I appreciate that you want to clean under it but there is a chance that if it is hard piped, you may put stress on the joint/s and comprimise the pipe soundness ie – cause a leak that may or not be detected by sense of smell.
A quick look under the hob will reveal if its hard or flexi piped.Greg
