Hi, I have just found this forum and wondered whether anyone had any idea/advice on how big the problem might be? ❓
Last weekend my daughter was ill resulting in the washer going overtime and on the final load – a sleeping bag – it got to the spin stage and sounded as ther was a ‘clicking’ sound as it spun, then a small ‘bang’ and the power was tripped and there was a small puff of smoke coming from ? top of machine. Thought that the sleeping bag had been too much/too heavy reset power and later tried machine again. Fills OK and drum rotates but as soon as speed picks up then goes ‘bang’ and trips power again.
Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem could be? Machine is just over 4 years old and has been very well behaved up till now 🙁
    Thankyou.

Does the clicking noise vary with drum speed?

Yes – it seems to be related to the speed – goes at the same rate as the drum I think – have only tried to run it once more since the original prob though.

If it’s one click per revolution, I would look very carefully at the state of the inner drum – it is possible that you have a split seam. The click may be the broken part hitting the heating element under the drum. If the element is actually damaged, it can blow the fuse.

I’ve just had a good look at the drum and can’t see any splits or broken areas. I spun the drum and the sound is similar to when you move the pedals on a bike backwards – the sound is different and a higher pitch than previously pre-sleeping bag. Don’t think I’m doing a very good job here with describing it!!!!!!
Would it help if I tried to run it again tomorrrow so I could describe it better?
    Thanks

It sounds as though a section of the commutator in the motor has lifted. It would suggest new motor time. 😥 I wouldn’t keep trying it, you may blow more than your circuit breakers if you do.

That’s what I was thinking it might be 🙁 Have you any idea what the cost of replacing a motor might be or even if it is worth doing??
The machine was bought just before we moved here by the previous owners so we inherited it but if we replace it we’d neeed to get another integrates one – do you know where/how I can go about finding out more about what would be the best/most reliable replacement? Have looked for reviews but not come up with much but probably looking in the wrong place?
    Thanks

Not well up on Tecnik, they can be made by several different manufacturers. The Bosch/Neff range is a good standard to aim for with integrated appliances.

Thanks Jim – just one more quick question! Is it, in your opinion, worth the initial outlay for something like a Miele machine – I know they are very expensive and the thought of over £1000 for a washing machine is quite scary but is anything built to last nowadays?
    Thanks, Jane 🙂

Re: Tecnik tkl9260 – Help – went ‘bang’ the other day!

Now you are talking, seriously good machines, will last 15 to 20 years with luck. most of the higher priced Miele come with 10 year conditional warranty as well.

Over 25 years ago a decent machine would have cost £250 to £300, almost your £1000 in todays money. Lots of 20 year old machines still working perfectly well, unfortunately the same cannot be said of todays £200/£250 machine.

Machine is manufactured by Siltal. The drive motor is p/no 49558700 and should be around the £100 mark. An email with the part number to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk for confirmed prices and ordering if you wish to proceed with a repair.
