    Hi,

    I’ve been out to a customers oven Siemens HB55055gb/01 with the grill element gone. Got the correct one from BSH and fitted it today. The customers has phoned to say that now its flashing “error 4”. I’ve not seen this before.

    Does anybody have any idea what this means.

    All help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

    Nick

    Hi
    You either have a faulty oven PTC or an electronic unit fault within the temp measurement range.
    The sensor readings are as follows –

    Temp in deg C /Ohms
    0 = 500
    50 = 590
    100 = 680
    200 = 870
    500 = 1400

    Er4, Would have the following reaction to the appliance. It does not heat up, fans switch over to run-on. Following correct temperature measurement, the fault is cleared and the cooker heats up again.

    Thanks for your help Greg. I’m going tommorrow to take another look at the oven and see if theres something obvious with it. I had to move the temperature probe to change the grill element and was wondering if i’ve pulled a wire loose. Heres hoping.

    Thanks again

    A quick update for anybody thats interested. I went out to have another look at the oven yesterday. The PTC, that fits into the grill element had lost some of its insulation off its wires. It has like a thin ceramic coating on the wires and it had crumbled off in a few places and looks like it was touching the metal clamp on the back of the grill element.

    As soon as i re-insualted the wiring it worked fine. The error code disappeared. Thank god for that.
