Got a customer with a Indesit washer W123 says she was using a wash program and smoke started pouring out from front of machine and she promptly switched off unit, been this morning and drained out machine and then checked for any obvious smoke effects tried machine on several programms and all seems ok . No trace of arcing to timer control or module contacts is there any other things i need to check ,have recently checked pump and unblocked as she had parts of a credit card stuck in it . Any help or suggestions on this fault ??

could be something got pushed against seal on spin, (overloaded?), often leads to ‘smoke’ calls

i assume you have checked for play in the drum, faulty bearings or a broken spider could allow the drum to rub on the door seal.

have had the machine on test for nearly 2 full days and no smoke or fire , possibly been overloaded but still the customer wants to make an insurance claim as they have old for new cover !!!

Not sure if your m/c has s/s tub but had one of these with a small crack at the suspension spot weld and caused a slight leak down on motor or motor block (think it was the block)… anyway caused motor to smoke but only leaked on load when m/c was moving about.. Might be worth a quick inspect but you probly checked already

Or perhaps she used one high temperature (more than 60’s) and sees vapors…
I’ve had only one time: noise reduction filter blown in such way, if I wouldn’t checked supplementary I wouldn’t find the problem.

PS. On burning smoke cases smell persist inside machine long time.

If she used a 90c wash, by the time the machine gets to spin the motor is quite hot, when it spins and air is blown through it there can be quite a burning smell. Not sure about smoke though, shes not just after a new machine maybe.
