for a few months now, my hoover AC180 has been overheating the water, for every cycle apart from the cool, quick wash and the condition rinse. We’ve tried everything, including altering the drainage, the thermostat, door seal, element, and we’ve even checked the pump and controls, but it still overheats, does anyone know why this is happening and what we can do to fix it?

is the ac180 a new wave or a soft wave?

I would focus more on the wash thermostat side of things rather than the door seal etc.

Does the cycle stick on the heat position or if left does it continue through????

Thermostat scaled up / wiring damaged / thermostat faulty / timer faulty

    all possibilities,

unplug appliance before working on it!!!!!!!

the machine is a New Wave. We’ve done a continuatity test on the thermostat, and it seems fine, the wiring seems in tact and the machine gets through the programs sort of, but when a fast spin is selected it doesn’t pump and just seems to go on without any ending. How much is a new timer/control unit, if this is the problem?

The early Hoover “New Waves” had problems with their electronics: they would abort the programme for various reasons.

The AC180 (1300 rpm, in Almond, by any chance?) will have purely electronic controller circuitry. Hoover designed later models to incorporate a hybrid electro-mechanical-computer board. I think this is also the recommended upgrade from Hoover, for troublesome early models. Last time I checked (my mother had the AC178), the upgrade was going to cost around £180 (mid 1990’s). Cheaper to buy a new machine!

By the way, I understand the gossip is that the green “Sensorspray” drum lifters are now discontinued from the Hoover Spares catalogue.

Your right Trilobite, it certainly is 1300 spin, almond and fully electronic. Very early on 15 years ago when i was a wee kid, this was a replacement (courtesly by Hoover) for the 1100 spin version, which again, overheated on a hot wash. Should we keep the machine for now, untill we get a new machine, and on that topic, what are the Miele W3922WPS and the T8622C like, is all the good stuff that ive heard about Miele true, is it worth buying into Miele truthfully?

There are two “best” brands – Miele and Asko. Both are excellent and designed to give a 20 year service life. However, if the Miele goes wrong after the warranty period you may struggle to pay for repairs – costs are horrendous and due to a malicious restraint of trade with regard to technical information and equipment your friendly local independent will struggle to repair it at his more sensible prices.

    I know which one I’d take 😀 .

But out of all the manufacturers Miele, would be the best, heyho, there the best brand out there.

Ok, then, tell me where we can find one. We were going to get an ASKO dishwasher because they sound great, but no where here would sell them.
