i have the gearbox coupling now and need some advice
do you have to take the gearbox off or does the motor/pump come off easier???June 11, 2007 at 3:53 pm #216390clivejameson

Simplicity….two 1/4in headed screws hold spring brackets to clamp the motor to the gearbox…remove screws and prise off brackets, the motor drops off (unplug wiring harness at motor block)
Be careful not to break the new coupling, they are a tight fit on the respective shafts….i usually ‘persuade’ them on with an old 13mm socket tapped gently with a small hammer 😉

The part number is correct but if you just order a clutch you may get something else.
The new drive coupling now has a metal insert in the plastic moulding which means it will last longer before splitting.Bad news. 😥

Take the cabinet off to make the job easier, if you have the space to do it that is 😉 only takes 5 mins to do. :rolls:
There are a few pickies in this web site, might be of interest 😉 http://www.cheapapplianceparts.com/washer_repair.htm

I’ve only seen one that split!…all the other failures i’ve seen are where one or two of the teeth have stripped off 😉
I’m sure it’s designed to be a weak link anyway to protect the gearbox/agitator if a big load jams in the drum?
