ParticipantHi there all, this is my first post.
My tdc62 has stopped heating, i’ve read through alot of the replys from other people on the same subject. so i’ve checked both the stats (without a multi meter, as I dont own one) and they both seem fine and I have used a 240v electrical tester on the thermostat connections and the heater connections to see if theres any power and there is’nt. any ideas.June 19, 2007 at 9:13 pm #217651Penguin45

With the power off, remove the two thermostats. The discs in the centre should be dished outwards. If one is dished inwards, it has failed. There is an additional thermostat in the top of the door opening, but it is quite rare for this to cause trouble.
Make a diagram before removing any wire and get a multimeter at the earliest opportunity. Basic ones suitable for circuit testing can be purchased for under £10.

Thank you for the speedy reply, The two stats on the back are o.k., and I havent got round to buying a multi meter yet. Any clues to what else the fault might be?

Participantyep, theres a stat in the front duct, if u look inside the door, and upwards, ull see it just inside
btw. we dont condone live testing of any description, test with suitable equipment with the mains plug out, for safety reasons!
hope this helps

How do you know if you haven’t tested them in complete isolation from the wiring with a mutlimeter or even a simple circuit tester.?

Hi there again,
Sorry Jim, I just took a visual inspection and presumed that they were ok. Would the stat on the inside of the door have any visual clues if it had tripped, I still havent got round to getting the multi meter (New Baby). Thanks for the replies

I wouldn’t worry about the stat in the door until you have checked the two at the back. They fail at a rate of at least 10 to 1 or higher compared to the door stat. you could follow the Penguins advice from earlier in this thread and remove those stats completely and examine the underside. The right hand one without the colour spot should click in and out if you press the base. Do not try that on the left hand, green spot one but look closely at the base it should not be concave but should look just like the right hand one. If it is concave then it has failed, the most common fault on this machine by a country mile.

Hi Jim, apologies again, I have already removed both stats and checked them like you instructed, Ive removed the door stat to see if there are any signs, but this appears to be a different type of stat. I will buy a multi meter now from B & Q.
Cheers

The door stat and the rear right hand stat are virtually the same beast, terminals at a different angle and a different temperature range but they will both trip then reset when the temperature goes outside of this range. The stat with the green spot is a ‘one shot’ safety stat. That will cut out above a certain temperature but will not reset, that is why you must handle that stat with care, the slightest pressure on the base and it is U/S.

I’ve got my multi meter and i’ve tested the continuity of all three stats, and all are fine. I class my self as being competent at some technical things as I’m a gas and boiler engineer, do you think that the fault is to do with the pcb or dryness module, do you think that i will be able to identify and fix the fault?

I have changed a few modules on these, in every single case it was due to the heater relay sticking ‘ON’. It is quite possible that it could stick off as well but I have yet to see one do that.
It is rather expensive though.Jim.

Hi folks,
I replaced the thermostats on our TDC62 a couple of weeks ago with a kit from UKwhitegoods when it stopped heating and it fixed the problem. However, the same problem has come back and the green spot “one shot” thermostat appears to have gone again. Do you know of an underlying problem that might cause this or is it just bad luck?
Cheers

Module usually. unplug power before going in.

Opening the door to “see how they’re doing” is the single commonest reason.
