ParticipantHad a call today from some chap from P&G offering a training course on detergents. Told him I had been on the UK Whitegoods course and he said this course was a follow on course. Has anyone had this offer or been on the course and is it worth the time ?

They will more than likely bang about the ‘Turn Down to 30°’ campaign.
In this area it will play havoc with drum supports. I suppose I should stop telling people to do at least one Hot wash per week and forget the maintenance wash ( funny that no mention of a maintenance wash is included on the packets of Ariel) 😥 That would mean I would be doing more drum supports than ever, or at least until the WM/WD range has completely died out. However as I am still repairing 9500 series machines, well over 20 years old that could be some time yet.
Don’t get many drum supports going on Hotpoint washer dryers as on washers, I put that down to the drying cycle but I may be wrong. By a strange coincidence I have three WD50/60 drum supports to do in next two days. 8)

Oh don’t be a spoilsport Graham, it’s FREE and is a follow-up from what your learned via UKW.
P&G phoned me and offered to come by my place and give an up-date to ‘detergent technology’ so I’m up for it. 😉
Bring it on P&G

We had the bloke from P&G round our shop last month and we all found the training very interesting.
You get the run down of how washing/dishwashing detergent actually works in the machine. This was all new to me and I hadn’t realised what a complicated bit of kit washing detergent is!
Then there was the usual lecture on what detergent to use for what clothes; a reminder to always follow the washing label; and example garments to show what happens when the label isn’t followed.
We got given booklets with all the info from the training, a few boxes of liqui-tabs and some Ariel pens 😉
It’s only lasts 40 minutes, it is informative and free. I’d say go for it.

Sorry mate but how long have you been a white goods engineer? …
…and you never knew about the enzymes etc only becoming active above 40 Deg or surfactants & the use of rinse aid or salt (don’t know why they bother with salt when the correct use of a filled softener unit softens the water anyhoo) in dishwasher detergents ???
I’m not taking the urine here & I mean no offence, but I thought everyone in this game knew what effects detergents had on clothes, dishes & machines ? Thats what makes us far more superior beings than the general public – World dominance is ours MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA 😈July 5, 2007 at 6:48 pm #219767Martin

…and you never knew about the enzymesSarcasm of this order is not something we accept Mr Redflame. I thank you for your comments and bow to your superior knowledge of detergents/surfactants etc. But do please allow others the opportunity to learn when tuition is freely available so that we may all end up being as knowledgeable your goodself. 😉

May have a change of heart and give it a listen, he is calling back next week.
Yes this Turn It to 30 campaign is sure to give us a lot more work, messy work but it pays the bills 😉

Did not mean to be sarcastic or nasty in any way mate as you can see from my quote, I meant no offence just curious how long he’d been an engineer !

I have been an engineer all my working life started at 14 ,now am 40 can’t be bothered to do the maths ,but my point is as I have always been an independent I never recieved any “official “training on detergents etc only picked up bits over the years .
Then I attended a UKW soap tech training session and my eyes were opened ,I learnt a hell of a lot and am not ashamed to admit it & I bet there were others like me as well.
I had the P&G trainer here 2 weeks ago 40 mins including Dishwasher tips ( which I already knew but it was good to refresh ) A nice glossy booklet with tips and advice and freebies to boot .
Amazing how customers won’t accept your word as to why there glasses are cloudy ,out comes the book and coz it looks official they are happy .

No worries my friend, your curiosity wasn’t all too apparent from your original post after all. Besides however long each of us have been in this business we are constantly learning from it, I’m sure you will agree?

Well said that man 😉 never the same day twice.
Its also amazing how little the public know hence the need for these lectures/visits so we can pass this knowledge on 😉 .
9 out of 10 of the visits I do, customer doesn’t realise that you need at least two different powders 😯“I generally buy the biggest and cheapest box of powder and bung em all in……. bleach? what bleach”
So thank heavens for the training given freely, past and present 😀
