ParticipantHello,
I have an electrolux EW 1200 1 which the drum is not spinning. (SN: 44700058)
On any wash cycle it starts to fill with water, you can hear a motor trying to spin drum, but the drum does not move. The drum can be manually spun, so is not stuck.
It is 2.5 years old, out of warranty, and would be grateful if anyone could offer advices as to what the problem might be so I can can decide if a repair is economic or whether to replace.
Regards,
Justin

Carbon brushes:

Drive belt:

Power off before going in………

prove motor action by taking the back off.. select spin program .at the same time you can see if the belt is off!

You disagree, however it seems you did not read the full post from P45, as clear as day on the third line, DRIVE BELT, :rolls:
Back off is not that simple on these richardable, the rear half of the cabinet has to be removed.
Justin, if you open the door and spin the drum by hand does it seem to spin as it normally does, or does it seem to be very free and keep on spinnig longer than normal, it it does the your belt will have come adrift or failed, if the belt is adrift but still in one piece then it still needs replacing.

sorry about the back off, as above spin the drum by hand. then UNPLUG and take the top off..see if belt is on pulley..if not the back will have to come off..if its the same as a zanussi you will need an 8mm socket spanner, to get all the securing bolts off..4 either side at the top, 2 each side (bottom of rear side panel concealed with plasic plugs) and 2 at the back at the 2 bottom corners

Hello everybody,
I’m new to this forum.
I have now exactly the same problem (at least same symptoms) as Justin back in July. My model is EW1000i.
If moved by hand the drum spins freely, no resistance at all. Before that there was a lot of noise coming from the backside, now the noise is gone and the drum does not move anymore but the engine is clearly trying to spin. How do i know if the belt is gone?
Many thanks,

as above..unplug..take top off and you can see if the belt is off the drum pulley..however if it has been noisy and now the drum can’t be turned you may have more severe damage, drum bearings at worst, belt is off and is caught between the pulley and the drum which jams drum movement…top off is the the quick way to find out..UN PLUG FIRST.

Many thanks.
I couldn’t see the belt from the top but i found it on the bottom of the machine…
Do i need a special tool to put the new belt?
The manchine is only 2 and half years old and i read on this forum that lifetime of belts nowadays is much longer, therefore i suspect there is something else wrong (bearings. etc.). By the way the drum is moving freely by hand, i do not feel any resistance, maybe the bearings are ok…
The only thing i could notice is avery dirty filter. Can this be a cause for the broken belt or surely has nothing to do with it?
Thanks,

see post of july 17th for removal of back half of cabinet,, be carefull if your inlet hoses are short, don’t stretch them!!! UNPLUG…before you start.
no special tool needed to re fit belt,
