I need some advice. I have a Creda TVS 3 tumble dryer and the belt has broken. I have ordered a new belt and would like some advice on fitting it. How difficult is it, are there any service manuals that can be provided, pictures, instructions, etc. Thank you in advance.

Very, very difficult without the special tool used to refit this belt, it is a stretchy belt and the new one will just about fit around the drum, let alone reach the motor pulley. Service manuals are not widely available and are also copyright material.
There are some very sharp edges to watch out for as well.
In general, tumble dryer belts are far more difficult to refit than washing machine belts.

Thanks for the advice. Looks like I while have to give it a try and then contact people if it seems too difficult. I don’t really want to call people out and be charged the high call out fees when it will probably turn out to be only a 10 minute job.

It takes me around fifteen to twenty minutes, what you are paying for is almost 40 years of experience and although that does not come cheap I would say that your local independent engineer would be far cheaper than any manufacturer, all the people available from the link below sign up to our charter.
I have heard of members of the public taking hours over this job before throwing in the towel.
Whilst not wishing to be confrontational, I have no idea what your line of work is but please have some respect for mine. 😉 8)

i don’t do a high call out fee, infact i don’t have a call out fee!!
however as i have posted before, one of the worst things,which i absolutely abhore is being called to a job then i’m told…” i’ve had a go myself and i can’t do it/ get it back together!!!”
i suggest you get a local independant qualified experienced appliance engineer out and pay for the job to be done properly..if you don’t know one ask someone and go by recommendation

Thanks for all the comments. Not sure what to do now. I have phoned up one of the companies on the repairs@ list and was quoted £50.00 call out plus the cost of the parts. So almost £70.00 for the job to be done.

Under £70 to sort it is at least 66{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} less than it will cost to buy a like for like replacement. 😉
No doubt that will include cleaning and checking the machine out to ensure you get even more mileage from it. 🙂

you say you have been £50 call out plus parts….no mention of a labour charge! so i infer that the “call out” charge is not a call out but a labour charge….however long the engineer is working on your machine. a good offer.

Just to give you all an update. The replacement belt arrived today and was waiting for me upon my return home from work. I can see what you mean when you say it is a tight fit.
Interesting that when I took the side off of the tumble dryer there was a large amount of ‘fluff’. i will have to keep an eye on it and make sure that the filter is cleaned before/after every use.
Anyhow, I managed to inch the new belt onto the drum, sliding it between the drum and door opening. Once that was in place the fun started. What I found was easiest was to use a small length of piping and use that to lever the belt down while one end of the pipe was attached to the motor spindle. It was then a question of carefully rotating the drum and maneuvering the belt into the right place. Remove the pipe. rotate the drum a few times to make sure there was no sideways movement. Vacuum the inside and then re-attach the exhaust hose, put things back together and voila – job done.javascript:emoticon(‘:D’)javascript:emoticon(‘:wink:’)

You need to keep a careful eye on the fluff situation, it is not due to any failure to clean the filter. There is a rear bearing shaft & seal kit to help to stop this, although there is also a modified drum as well. The seal kit is just over £10.00; the drum is probably not worth the expense.
I would suggest you lift the lid and remove the side panel in a month or so. If there is a serious build up of fluff again then I would strongly advise you to either attempt the shaft & seal kit repair or get it attended to. We don’t want to hear about another tumble dryer fire that could have been avoided.
PS. The filter should be cleaned every single time you use the dryer. 😉

When I opened the tumble dryer, i was really concerned. I took the heating element part off the back of the dryer and noticed ‘fluff’ in there aswell. A real potential fire hazard. A disaster waiting to happen – My dryer sits underneath the main house gas boiler in my garage. It is vented through the wall. Obviously if it were to catch fire, then the boiler and gas feeds would also be in the direct path. It doesn’t bare thinking about.
I will give it a month and check how it is going. The previous build up took 2 years to accumulate.
