I recently moved house and eventually got round to installing washing machine and ‘desk-top’ dishwasher (on top of washing machine). The dishwasher leaked a couple of times – I hadn’t done the connections up tightly enough…- which may then have leaked into washing machine….
When I got round to trying a wash with the washing machine, after selecting the prog and pressing start – a loud bang came from the washing machine. Couldn’t get washing machine to do anything.

I had a local electrician come and have a look – immediately discovered blown fuse, and managed to repeat event, but couldn’t pinpoint problem… – he has checked out everything he can think of – door lock, control board, motor…. but with no joy finding the fault.

The machine is only 5 years old and hasn’t been used that much, and am reluctant to have to bin it for what could be a minor fault.

Is it worth further investigation, or should I just accept that these things aren’t meant to last…..? Any suggestions welcome….

the bang may have came from the suppressor , it will also blow a fuse, plug out before checking please.

The mains suppressor is live as long as the machine is plugged in. The door lock has to be activated before the machine will operate, so that would be my prime suspect.

Thanks for the replies. I’ll give my local electrician a call tomw. Are there any other symptoms we / he should look out for. Or questions I should ask?

No disrespect to your local spark, but you would be better served getting an appliance repairer on the case.

Try the Repairs@ link below for a UKW engineer in your area.
