New – member and thanks to all for this forum. I have successfully replaced the main motor brushes (following the advice here) on this machine which is about 5 yrs old.
Problem now is that the spin cycle (which was ok before the motor ‘died’) now quits at varying times in the cycle. With a load it went from 5 mins remaining to 0 and I ran an ’empty’ cycle which quit from 8 to 0 yesterday (Full cycle shows 11 mins). It reaches a reasonable speed during the run and the speed selector appears to be controlling ok.
Is this a new control unit or is there some sort of reset I can do? If the former, advice on costs v replacing welcome.

Did you use genuine Bosch brushes or patent parts ? I have had a couple of occasions where new patent brushes have caused probs but the genuine Bosch ones work fine .
It might be worth running a couple of ‘spin only’ cycles to help the brushes bed in .
Or you could remove and re-fit the brushes in case they’re not seated properly.

Funny you should ask………………….. I needed them on Saturday with Mrs threatening divorce as the washing piled up so I bought ‘look-a-likes’ – HOWEVER, the bizare news is that 2 washes have gone through this am with NORMAL spin, so I guess you may be spot on! I did wonder also if I might have thrown some water around in the process and it has dried out?
Further query now the major panic MIGHT be over (marriage saved…… :rolls: )
1) The little black drain tube produces no more than a few drips when the drum is full – is it prone to blocking and can it be cleared?
2) I removed the pump chamber cap during the work on Saturday and now have a small weep from it, despite a little jointing compound applied. Is there a ‘trick’ to seal it or do I need more Plumber’s Mait?

Not easy due to its length and access to the pump end restricted I’m afraid. 🙁

Blimey!…Just remove, clean and refit the little black rubber gasket and screw it back up finger tight is all that’s required….Plumbers Mate indeed…Good Lord? :rolls:

Did all that first time round but it does not seal properly. I’ll have another go and put the PM out of reach…….

I’d like to let you all know how useful again I found this forum. A similar spin problem happened again today and on re-reading the threads here I decided to look at the motor again – (cheap) brushes still fine but commutator heavily carboned. Lacking a ‘comstick’ I cleaned it with emery paper and BINGO!
For the mods and ‘Martin’ – still ‘Plumbers Mate Free’. No cold turkey/withdrawal symptoms. 🙂
